So the wiring and sensor should be there. Just need a new boss put in your dp for it.

As far as I know I do have an EGT sensor in the downpipe, as Jabba said originally that they do monitor it. However I've never tried logging it to check

Quick update...

It's not looking good on sourcing a new housing. Jabba don't have any and I tried one of their turbo suppliers too and looks like there impossible to get hold of unless I buy a whole turbo, which in this case would be a VF22 as it has the P20 housing.

There is a guy on here selling a second hand VF34 but it's been tracked and TBH for the price of it I'm not sure it's the way to go.

Speaking to Jabba I'm getting more tempted by one of the Owens Garrett hybrids which would bolt straight on. They do a smaller one than the 400+ one advertised which they can map with my 440's and a 4bar FPR. Would need to do rods though for sure. Not sure of exact figures but hopefully but I'm guessing 18G territory.

Slippery slope this BT lark....

I bet owens have got loads of housings?! Not all LCR's were BAM. But his one is a BAM and should have the EGT in the downpipe and should have limits built into the map.

go for a td05/16g as all the parts are replaceable and it will fit straight on

Yes, I know where you're coming from as one of those (or big16G) was what I was originally thinking...

However, the housing would need clocking and judging by the housing this means bosses welding to it as it doesn't have spare ones like the IHI, not insurmountable but another hassle. Also would an 8psi actuator be enough to achieve 1.4 bar + boost? Wastegate porting etc? I know these options are available but do add some extra £. Also wonder if I get any issues then I may have to get the map tweaked anyway.

I haven't tried scooby mania but when I was looking at flat4online they said it would be 14 working days delivery for an FP turbo as they have to come from the US, which isn't great either.
Having said that it would be a while to get the rods done.. decisions, decisions

That's what I thought but obviously not enough to save it! TBH the housing doen't appear distorted as the flanges were still sealing and the crack isn't that bad, but wouldn't want to put it back on as it is.

I was lead to believe that Turbo Dynamics supplied the VF34's for Jabba - that's who I phoned, I haven't tried Owens themselves yet. I assume the new Garrett hybrid is a different housing?

Stick a add in the wanted section on the scooby forums for a VF22/23 housing thats what i did and had quite allot of response, there are a fair few about with chipped blades, failing that i have a brand new
P18 housing if your interested.

Thanks Phil,

I'll bear that in mind after I've spoken to Owens etc.

clocking them is easy mate, then just get someone to weld the bracket on? spoke to scooby mania last week and they had some in stock;)give them a call as they seem to know their stuff when i spoke to them.

Thanks Caney, I'll give scooby mania a call in the morning too.

Wouldn't have used the flat4 guys anyway - no number on their website - not going to be great for customer service me thinks.

Try aet turbos for a housing. I've had 3 vf34s and a 20 housing off them in the past.
But I'd be going td series turbo. Easy to clock.

Thanks Wilko,

yeah the TD series does seem to be the best bang for the buck and reliability too. If I don't get greedy and just stick to standard 16G then no re-map issues.

Maybe i'll see if I can pick up a housing too, to either keep the IHI as a spare or sell it on

the IHI lives (again)!!

Good news...

Owens came up trumps in the end today. They have a whole pile of new P20 housings and a snip at £95 +VAT so you can guess what I'm going to do :)

Apparently they buy in new VF22's and modify them for WRC cars and change the housing so they are just sat on a shelf gathering dust.

May even have the car back up and running by Friday :funk:

Thanks for everyones help

By the way I spoke to them about their garrett/IHI hybrid's and they use their own custom housings so no warpage issues

interesting Scooby Mania options

I also spoke to Scooby Mania today before Owens got back to me and they had some interesting 16G and 18G options and the guy was very helpful.

For starters they have them all in stock, and as well as the standard FP ones they have their own in-house "hot" versions called the ST380 and ST420 -you can guess what the numbers mean ;)

On the 420 using an 18G size compressor housing they have to weld on actuator bosses anyway, even for scooby fitment, so they could do the clocking for 1.8T's just as easily. They were also happy to do the clocking on the 16G based version, so would be ready to bolt on :)

So good options for anyone going down the TD route [B)]

So what you going to do about stopping this one from cracking?

Well I have an MBC so initially I won't run it over 1.3bar. Once I get the Race Diagnostics gauge installed I'll start checking my EGT's versus boost and see where we are. It can also monitor AFR's on the fly too so maybe I can look at tweaking the fuelling (Lemmiwinks?) If needed I'll look at a fitting a water methonal kit.

The Scooby Mania guy was very honest and said he'd seen TD series turbos with cracked wastegates too as it's all down to EGT's in the end. Apparently on Scoobies they rarely see more than 800 degrees and reliability is normally good - he was aware of a Seat (didn't know who) seeing 1000 degrees + and goodbye 18G.:-o
