I swore I'd never need to leave Ford. I've had the XRs and the RSs, next was the STs or the Cossies.. but SEAT, with the Leon dragged me away with little fuss.

That's quite a task, I was brought up as a Ford kid. Watching Sierras RS500s race and going to Ford 1300 Stox. Good stuff :D I had my R/C Escort RS Cos. Hehe.

Cupras really are something special :D

The RSs are not ****! They're little pieces of motoring history. If we're gonna start brand-bashing, let's at least go for one that've achieved nothing -ever. VAUXHALL!!!

The ford owners clubs, (RS, XR, Focus, Fiesta Turbo) members are great people. Really nice, helpful and great when you've a problem.

Ford has many positive points. Cheap parts, cheap repairs, many many modifications, hundreds of garages with knowledge to work upon them. Strong YB lumps, favoured by Cosworth themselves, etc.

Not to mention the simplicity of the CVH or X-Flow engines. Real car-fan engines that you can get good and greasy working on. Not a fault code insight.

There is always something to aspire to. Got an XR? Get an RS, or an ST or a Cossie.

It's a great company that time and time ago set records for car-sales!

I'd love to hear why you think they're ****? :p

Don't you mean cars owned by chavs as opposed to chav cars? :S You can put the chav in an SL55 AMG, and it'd be a chav car, by your logic?

The performance is great, and they're a LOT of fun to drive. Repair costs make them very appealing to 19 year olds on a small budget. They're still featured regularly in magazines and publications, as well.

I guess if you're not a chav, and you don't live in a council house, they don't appeal.

I know people that call me a chav for having any interest in cars at all. It's all relative. Shame people are referred to as chavs, just for spending their time and effort on a modern-day classic XR3 or equivalent.

There's only two fast Ford's I'd ever consider owning:

1. Escort RS Cosworth
2. Focus RS

In that order. Been lusting after the Escort Cossie for over 10 years now. One day I'll have a Mallard Green Lux!!!! :)

The Max Power brigade have ruined the other XR / RS fast Fords.

I spend most of my childhood being chaffeured round by my parents in Fords.
To be fair to Ford it does make cars that handle - look at the Puma, the Focus RS and ST - despite being built in most cases for a budget they often been rated as once of the best drivers car for the money. Even the new Mondeo is supposed to drive well.

The 90's were some desperate times for Ford when cars like the Probe and the Scorpio were on the market, and they've struggled to change public perception ever since.

Anyway, that aside, good to have you back on board and in a car with the right badge on the front and back.

I like Focus' and Mk2 Escorts, and agree the YB lump is fantastic but come on..............the CVH is truely a total and utter dog of an engine. I havd one and was so glad to see the back of it.

I am not a person who thinks Seat's rule the world, the Focus ST will probably be my next car, however, the Leon is a fantastic package :D

I've completely steered this thread away from its intention, and for that I apologise :D

CVH forever!!!! :p
