Immobiliser Problem

Hi,

I'm having a problem, every second start or so the light with the key flashes, which obviously stops the car starting. I have to keep turning off and on, wiggling the key, playing with the wire next to the window wiper stalk.

I've had the wheel off and checked all the connections, but these seem fine.

I've heard it could be the coil, since that is what vag-com flags up.

Is this inside the lock, as the whole thing looks rivited to the steering colum.

I've not looked at this, but I "thought" that the coil that picks up the transponder signal was placed over the top of the key barrel - so that it is near the key's transponder.

As above. You should see some thickish cable coming from it (coax). It will be towards the top of the ignition lock.

i had the same problem 6 months ago seat had it in and they said it was the coil so had it done took it home and same thing happened so took it back and after 3days they solved it
it was the millage bit of the clocks so they fitted a new millage digital display and it works fine now touch wood

for 'top', do you mean at the end of the barrel, or above the key entry?

what model ibiza you got Chris?

If its an early mk4 sport with the 6 dial dash then its a well known problem and requires a new dash panel , There's a couple of threads on the subject if you do a search.

Think this effected only the 6 dial dashes though so if yours isn't it will probably be something else.

i have the 130 tdi sport so it must be the model and i had the dash panel done

Mine's going in to the dealer tomorrow to have the same fault looked at. they told me they'd probably just have to reprogram the keys (wishful thinking eh?!?!) If i need the panel doing you reckon they'll have one in to do tomorrow? How long would it take?

they had mine in stock only because they had it for someone elses car but put 101000 miles on it when the blokes only had 59000 miles so they asked me if i minded one that said my car done less miles i said no because i just no my car has done 4ooo miles more rhan wha it the panel says
but i heard if its the panel and new it will be alot of money

its a 52 plate 130

it has the 6 dial dash.

Wasn't there someone who fixed the problem by resoldering the terminals?

it must be that year and model i got a price from seat to do the dash panel surplied and fitted 300 pound but because they charged me for the coil witch the dinostic said it was and it was not they had to do it for nothing
