Immobilisor problem, pulling my hair out! lol

Having a right mare with the Mrs's Ibiza Tdi sport 130.

Just found a topic on here which sounds similar, basically the immobilisor wont turn off sometimes, car starts and code light flashes and engine cuts out.

randomly sometimes starts fine but other times not. more often than not wont start now.

Anyone else has this problem? Took it to seat as a last resort and they havent found anything typically. They are saying the clockset needs to be replaced etc now at a cost of like 500 quid.

The topic i saw similar they replaced the clocks and that sorted it, but dont wanna fork out that sort of money.

So I'm left with the idea of having the immobilisor removed. A guy does it on e bay for £75.00. I dont mind not having an immobilisor tbh as long as the bloody thing starts.

Other option is have a remap and have the immobilisor removed but obviously a lot higher cost lol.

Has anyone had there immobilisor removed?

I know it sounds simple, but have you tried removing the steering column suround and checking for loose wires from the ignition switch? Failing that try having a look at the back of the instrument cluster.

Have you tried it with another key?

I dont think you can turn the imobiliser off by a remap, but could be wrong.

ive not had a look in the steering column shroud to be honest no. is there something in there that picks up the key?

Have tried both keys, is the same with both. Ive had the dials out before and everything looked ok, dunno what Im looking for tbh.

Yeh dont think the remap alone takes off the imobilisor. think they have to install the custom software or something. I think the best bet might be to send the ecu off for the immob delete. Will have a look tonght to see if i can see any loose wires tho, cheers mate :)

There is a sensor which picks up the signal from the key at the top of the ignition lock. There will be a thick-ish wire running from it which will go down the steering column. Try having a look to see if this looks like it has a poor connection. I cant remember what it all looks like from memory, and have no pics to help im afraid, but it is the same with most cars.

You could also try holding the other key next to the ignition lock (by the side) while trying to start it with the other key.

In honesty, it is probably a more serious electrical fault, but it is worth trying these things first as they are simple.

yeh defo worth a go for nowt.

think worse case is send the ecu off to have the immobilisor taken off anyway. at £75 that isnt too bad really. Although gonna try and get the £57 off seat as they couldnt actually tell me anything lol

Good luck with that one! They inspected the car told you the clockset was screwed - that's all they need to do for their £57!

I had a problem like this about 18 months ago on an ibiza 130 sport as this is what i still own. They originally thought that I needed to get the ignition coil and barrell replaced. I had this done and then the same thing kept happening. It turned out to be the Immobiliser control unit. That cost me about 500/600 to get sorted I think. It was about 450 for the Immobiliser control unit to be done. They told me that they could not turn the immobiliser off as it is impossible apparently. I dont beleive it for a second but no where else I tried said they could turn it off either.
If I'd thought about it I could have gone and got something like a clifford alarm or a toad alarm and got better security for less than what I paid and they can actually turn the original immobiliser off and problem would be solved. If you have the same issue that is what I'd recommend doing.

Hi mate
thanks for your reply.

Think thats what they are saying to me. I don't trust dealers myself and taking it there was a last resort tbh.

I do loads of car maintenance myself, including engine swaps, etc etc so have a general idea, although more mitsubishi and renault are more familiar to me than Seats/VAG etc, as never really been m cuppa tea before, and can tell when a dealer is bullshitting me lol, they dont know what they are doing half the time!

I think my plans to whip the ecu off tonight and get it in tomorrows post to this bloke who takes the immobilisor function off the ecu and see if this cures it. Cant see why not as its only this whats the problem and if its gone it shouldnt haunt me anymore lol.

Yep common fault with the 6 dial dashboards and seat always say it it needs a new dashpanel.

had this problem myself and my immobiliser is turned off so it defiantly can be done.have beefed up with other security though for the benefit of any car thieves reading this:p

hehe way I feel at the mo they can take it lol.

prob stick somethin on it at a later date like a clifford immobilisor or somethin :) gotta be cheaper than the £150 to take the dials out and £350 for a new set of dials lol.

3 hour job to get the dials out, funny that I had em out in about 15 mins lol.

 i know i had a problem with the dials on my 1.2 and i had them out quicker then seat said they could! give them there due they did say most of the 3 hours is programming the new cluster but i refused to pay this much money for some teenager who thinks hes a mechanic to push buttons on a lap top. my solution was i part ex'd it for the FR:lol:

well removing the imobilisor from the ecu works :) the code light still comes on and goes out like before, but then on the ocassions where it flashes the car still starts so at least its mobile now lol. Bulb removal me thinks lol.

Also the coil light is flashing now too, so must be something to do with removing the imobilisor, local garage can check that though for free next time its in :)

soldering iron may be in order then lol

could do with changing the dials at some point if some come up, the temp gauge is dodgy!

Maybe somebody on here has got an old set as a few have had them replaced by the stealers. probably thrown away or left with the dealer to bin i guess:(

I bypassed the immobiliser like you did or you could have had my old set with pleasure as there no use for a car with a working immobiliser lol.

some will turn up im sure :)

ive got some 1.2 ones i could probably change the temp guage on if I can unsolder the dial and fit that.
