ah gotya, with the dials out? or just pushing on the glass?

what did it fix on yours? the dodgy temp gauge or the immob problem?

the black plastic it should push just slighty back if you push it there, and i should hopfully work, *hopefully* and its just a dodgy connection on the dials like every1 says it only happens with the 6 dial dash, right pain!
but hopefully knowing whats wrong with it you should be able to explain to a garage or who ever and get it fixed for well much cheaper the stealers say :)

We're having this same problem with out Seat Ibiza Tdi. It's a 53 plate, done just over 100k and yep - it's got the 6 dials.

The most annoying problem is definitely the immobiliser, though we have also noticed in the past year the oil temperature gauge has often been reading faulty and about 6 months ago the voltage was reading about 12v when you started it until you revved the car and then that's fine (for that journey).

The immobiliser problem started a couple of months ago, but has been really intermittent. Yesterday though the car cut out (after a couple of seconds), but started on about the 3rd attempt. Drove it about 1 mile. Went into a shop and it wouldn't start again. dh ended up phoning the AA as it still wouldn't start 30 mins later. Of course it started when he tried it with the AA there, though he'd tried it several times whilst waiitng on them.

Anyway searched on this forum and found several threads on this, with this one being the most recent, so thought I'd join it.

Not allowed to post thread I wanted as I haven't yet made 15 posts, but if you have forums/showthread.php?t=199145&page=2

This thread seems very useful, so going to try and get to that 32 way connector and see if we can remake the connections as damo m8 has suggested.

Sounds like a very likely solution. Just over a year ago, we'd a problem with the burglar alarm keeping going off, which I tracked to a faulty connection at the boot door, sorted out the connection and it's been fine for a year, so fingers' crossed we can sort the immobiliser problem in a similar manner.

Would be handy if anyone could post some photos though.
I know there was a very useful post when we couldn't open out boot on exactly how to solve that problem and it had loads of photos and step-by-step instructions, which makes it easier.

have you read what i have put in the past couple of post?

Hi there.

Yes, I've read what you've put on the past couple of posts and think it's extremely useful to ge the car going if you're stuck, but surely pressing on the dials area just cures it for that time, whereas sorting out the connections as damo m8 suggests would sort the problem for a much longer duration?
Correct me if I'm wrong though as you're method sure saves a lot of work.

all i can say is it the loom on the right of the dials (speedo side) i dnt no what cable or anything like that i would have to get the steering wheel off wtc to have a good look but i no that theres just a dicky connect in that loom, i am still to find out what i can do about it. i did find a forum about the wireloom diagram some time ago and that would of been usefull but i cannot find it any more
but like you said quick fix is pushing the dials.

Well, we've finally taken the dials out (which was a pig). All steps were easy (as explained in Faulty Electrics thread) until the point of actually getting the dials out between the steering wheel and the dash.

I then stripped them down to the point where you could see the green connector going onto the board and resoldered as many of the connections that could easily be accessed without actually removing the speedo dial. The immobiliser connections (1 and 17) were easy to access as they were at the top and in theory I only needed to try resoldering those 2, but just decided to do as many as possible (in case something else there was to go wrong if I never). I also remade the wire connections for the immobiliser on the green connector.

Have just built back together this evening and it started, but that means nothing as it started a lot of the time anyway, just the frequency of it cutting out on a start (by the immobiliser) was becoming more frequent. Not going to judge if it's been sorted now. If it runs fine for 6 months, then I'll assume that was the problem, but I wont hold my breath until then.

Have just found by reading another thread (and just tried) we could have not only moved the steering wheel down (which we did), but we could also have pulled the steering wheel out a bit, which would have made the removing dials relatively easy. Wish we'd realised that at the time.

hehe I did that the first time too mate. I can get em out in 5 mins now.

I need to change the dials in it as are all going mad at the moment.

Does anyone know if any diesel dialsets should fit? seems to be the 6 dials which are the dodgy ones so may just stick a 4 dial set in from a newer tdi sport, shame to lose the other two dials but if it all works it will have to do.

This happened on my Ibiza tdi130 last week and sounds exactly the same.... try pressing in the clocks on the 120mph mark with one hand and then put key in and start with other hand....this shows up loose soldering on 32 pin green plug that goes into the back of clocks....this seems to be a common problem on these, I resoldered mine and it fixed the immobilser problem but turned on the airbag light that just needs vagcom to be reset.... just search for faulty electrics and look for a post called immobiliser issues or something like that and there is photo walk through, bit fiddly, good luck
