Whats the easiest and way of improving the stereo in a Leon ?

Wouldn't want to change the appearance or add any big bass units or anything - just to improve the quality of the sound,...

I'm guessing changing the speakers would be 1st ?

Any advice would be welcome !

cheers

having had an '08 ibiza as a courtesy car, the standard leon sound setup is incredibly poor in comparison. not sure if too many people are confusing 'louder' with 'better' but without amping any replacement speakers you wont generally notice any difference in quality.

on another point, replacing the stock mids with a coaxial unit will only drop the sound stage round your ankles, or give you 2 point sources for the higher frequencies if you retain the OE tweeter as well. I replaced the OE mids with some aftermarket units and have since swapped them back, wasnt worth the cost.

IMO you'd be better off spending some money on deadening the door skins and door card.

Swapped the speakers in mine for Infinity coaxials as per the above threads and there's a massive improvement in quality (they're actually quieter than the stock speakers for a given HU volume setting but now you can actually put some volume through them and retain definition).

You do notice the absence of the highs from the stock tweeters but only for about 5 minutes.

From my experience, an extremely worthwhile and relatively inexpensive mod.

I would imagine adding an amp onto the standard speakers would make it worse.

It have now been 3 weeks after I changed to Velocity Vc662 in the front doors (Tweeter in A-pillars) + Vx662 in the back doors, and this is GREAT compared to the sound before... Also the THb 210a active sup I added in the trunk helps a lot!!

Simple operation, all 4 doors took app. 20 min, Tweeters and X-overs in the front another 30 min. Subwoofer with 10mm2 cable from the battery took app. 2H = in total it took 3½h for a massive sound improvement.
