about to add pipercross induction kit to SLC 180 with revo . What exactly will this do to my car i.e performance, fuel, sound, torque. How will it compare too Honday civic type r and Focus RS, i have 210 bhp and 232 lb/. Cheers.

From what I understand from researching this a bit, induction kits have only one function on Turbo charged cars. That is to improve air mass flow and hopefully reduce the temperature of the incoming air.

All the usual requirements of induction tuning that is such an important part of a normally aspirated engines performance have no effect on Turbo cars as the no pressure waves get past the turbo anyway.

The vast majority of air boxes are actually at negative pressure with respect to atmospheric pressure, so a small gain can be made from pressurising the airbox by using a ram air which is sourced from a positive pressure point in the body work somewhere, (usually somewhere around the front grill). If you can also prevent the air being warmed by the engine at the same time all the better.

Aparently accoring to the results of tests I've read about the actual air filter is not a significant issue and so called "performance" filters do little more than just filter the air less well than stock ones will. Given that in cars only approximately 3% of the pressure drop accross the entire intake is attibutable to the stock filter, (compared to nearly 10x that for the piping etc leading up to the air box itself), I would personally be putting my efforts in to increasing the diameter and smoothness of the piping in to, (and out of towards the turbo), the air box.

for starters, you probably don't have 210bhp, thats just a rough revo guestimate, its not gospel. Secondly, with an air filter, your car will perform the same against a CTR or FRS as it would without it, it will not make you any faster to the extent that you will suddenly beat a car that you couldn't before.

As for how it will compare against a CTR, thats tough, some have beat them with revo some have lost.

An FRS will really have to be driven by a twat to be beaten by a Revo cupra though.

cheers mate, happy new year to you too. just excited as i have only had the car for one month, previousley had bmw 3 coupe, and was soooo bored with it. Now having much more fun.

Yeah, Revo turns the car into something else. had it for 9 months and still lovin it! :)

Have you got an SPS3?

Its a device that allows cars with Revo to turn the boost and timing up or down.

Also can be used to turn off the Revo temporarily say if you want someone else to borrow the car without the extra umph.

Also can be used to immobilise the car if you are going away for a while.

Its a little hand held device about the size of a mobile and just plugs into the same port they use to do the remap - under the stereo compartment.

It can change the driving dynamic by say turning up the boost and turning down the timing, or vice versa. Mucho fun!

cool, so how much are these things, and will it give me more power if i turn it up, ( not that the front wheels could handle this) lol. thanks for the info mate.

Well they're £250 plus VAT brand new, but you can pick them up 2nd hand on here for about £130 (thats what i paid recently).

Its not so much that you get more power, but it makes the power delivery different. If you try to just crank up the boost, it will give aggressive spikes low down in the range, but the heat caused by the high spike will make the engine pull back at the top end and therefore you'll have less power at high revs.

Does that make sense? I guess what Im saying is that you can gain power low down, but lose it up top.

I've never had it RR'ed but its only a stage 1 remap (revo) with no mods except smoother air box, 100mm cold air feed and pipercross filter. Plus the forge DV obviously :)

So i guess it'd be putting out around the 200 mark as thats what most Revo'd LC's get (200-212).

BMW's i've never come across to compete, but just today a CTR was behind me and kept trying to get infront. Every time he floored it and pulled out, I floored it too and he couldn't get ahead, then he'd drop back for a min, then try again so i did again. In the end he gave up. ******.

Thats not to say i'd be faster in a race, but just indicates that one isn't noticably slower than the other.
