Your car is three years younger, it must have newer version of ECU firmware. I think your options are reduced to using VAG-com to reduce EGR action to minimum, or closing the EGR port with a steel plate that has a 4mm hole in it.

Thanks Muttley, I think VAG-com would be my preference, I have been thinking of getting this software for a while now.

I'm not like you guys...
does anyone have a pic of the actual electrical connector you disconnect?
or if i just disconnect the vac pipe do i disconect it from the actuall valve? and then just plug the loose pipe?

EDIT: its ok i sorted it, managed to find the connection and undo it lol, much better now, went for a little spin, makes a big difference to car thats done 105K, smoother revs, better throttle response, and no smoke!

What year is your car? Did you get any warning lights on the dash panel? Maybe we can work out when the ECU firmware was upgraded to check for EGR functionality, and if a resistor across the connector terminals will fix the CEL.

Digging up a thread from the dead, but...

So disconnecting the N18 disables the EGR? and thats it?! Is it worth cleaning out the EGR as well, even if its going to be sat disabled?
