Hi everyone,
Today I had "INSP" come up where my Mileage monitor is, with a quick little beep. I haven't had a service yet, but is that what it means?

I was told I have to go in for a service on the 10k mark, but I have done 7781 miles in my Car so I thought this is a tad early?

Any suggestions? I didn't want to phone up my Dealership just in case it's something silly. :p

:) It's 10.000 miles or 12 months.Whichever comes first. And not a moment sooner.My Seat dealer never seems to reset the interval,but you can do it yourself.
 
Cool, any idea why INSP is coming up early? Does it do this usually?
 
:shrug: Dunno.I've had mine over 3 years,serviced on the dot at Seat,and it always comes up 'insp' about a couple of thousand miles too soon.

As far as i know,all Ibizas are 12 month/10k service intervals.So it's nothing to do with it being one of those VW 'variable' service intervals.

Maybe someone else on here might be able to shed some light on why it happens?.
 
you 'may' have only done 7,000 odd miles , but your car is 'possibly' 12 months old.
hence it throwing the INSP light up

Ah! It was manufactured in July, great thanks. So I suppose I need to book it in for the Service then! :)

If your car was manufactured in say, april, then it would come on about that time of year unless it was reset at the correct time of sevice by the garage, surely?

:redface: Oh.Come to think of it!:doh: The dealer never resets it,but how the hell does the brain know when 12 months has passed?.
 
I believe 'by design' all VW Group vehicles, that have fixed interval service indicators, will indicate that a service is due 2,000 miles early. That way you have [plenty of] time to make the necessary arrangements for it to go into a dealer before the required time.
 
The car has no idea of date or time, only mileage, so the suggestion of it coming on a couple of thousand miles before the service is due is a valid one. My car did something similar . . . .
 
How do you display the date on your's then . . . . ?

I can get the time on the multi-function display, but no date.
My PC has a 'calendar' built in ;-)

Actually, I think you'll find that as Brummy said:

you have a clock in your car.... it 'reads' multiples of 24 hours... ;)

The indicator works on how many hours and miles have passed since last reset and will warn whichever is about to be reached first, but as I said, it will warn early to give the owner time to get it booked in.

That way, whether you do 5000 miles in 12 months or 12000 miles in 6 months, it'll still remind you that a service is due. The accuracy will depend on the relevant indicators (oil change and main service) being reset at the end of the service of course.

Or for an off the wall idea there's always the chance that it's set to km instead of miles?
 
Seems a lot of people get the "INSP" come up early

The counter will be set to zero when the car leaves the factory, then the car gets sold and this can be some time later but the dealer does not zero it again as they should do as part of the PDI (along with other things they conveniently forget too)

The car deffo knows when a year is up, mine does about 5k miles a year and I make sure I zero it on the exact day of it's service to find it flash up about 11 months later each time, come to think of it, it is on now and going for it's 3rd service at the end on June :think:

Think about it, it has a clock, it times your journeys on the fuel computer so it must be able to time other things if needed
