Insurance Companies - What you doin'?

Just a quick update on this nonsense. I just ran a quote on an FR Edition with lowered suspension (no more that 50mm was the option I ticked) and it reduced my premium by 100 quid.
Are insurers finally realising that a lower centre of gravity is actually safer?! Maybe I'll add a roll cage to really bring it down

I think they are realising that some mods indicate an owner is enthusiastic abut their car and more likely to look after it.
other mods ( like a roll cage ) indicate the opposite and will often be refused a quote.
Insurance on my Cupra was cheaper than my Toca! Work that out.

Eh? Which insurer gave you that, I asked my insurer (Sainsburys) about suspension lowering on a previous car and they point blank refused it. I'd still ask the dealer about the implication on warranty beforehand, rather than get any nasty surprises.
With the specialist insurers, they were always cheaper for me if I had modified my old Type Rs, as it does show you're an enthusiast & take more care of the car. Decent servicing, always fitting decent tyres and brakes etc.
That was a comparison quote. Admiral or Elephant are always the cheapest for me. "Specialists" are generally double the price (or more).
My understanding is that by law, a car warrenty covers the car no matter what mods you have UNLESS the mid is found to cause the fault. For example, the dealer could easily say that a remap caused engine failure and not pay out, but would have a much harder time proving the low suspension was the reason your gearbox blew up.
Of course, I would ask my dealer first. The rollcage age was also a joke

Apparently any drivetrain modifications (engine/gearbox/suspension) will flag a TD1 on the dealers system meaning warranty is now void for all drivetrain.
I've tested that theory on a few occasions
I know Audi operates on that system but so far SEAT don't seem to operating on it. Plus it's not completely voided, there's ways round it. It's more if you do make a warranty claim it flags it up and you then start the arguing process of how remapping the car didn't cause the rod to fly through the block
