Yupppp - They sure are! FR/sport 130 = 130bhp, Cupra TDI = 160bhp.

Cupra gives a lot more to help with the modding - i.e. an FMIC, 312mm 4 pot brakes, bigger turbo etc but (for me) it was still cheaper to insure the FR and add the FMIC and 312mm brakes (work in prog.) than it was to insure a cupra

and i thought the front brakes on my FR were big, do the 312mm come standard. i heard from a guy who works at seat that the most reliable one was the 130 but i dont know how true that is. i pay £580 insurance and wads gunna look at quotes for the cupras

FR's come with 288mm as standard - but the cupra's have 312mm AP Racing brakes as standard (although you could get a 312mm kit from an Audi TT/Octy VRS/Leon Cupra for about £200).

My insurance is about the same as yours (although I have a remap, front upper strut brace and an uprated air filter all declared so far) whereas when I bought the car, a Cupra would have skinned me £900 extra on the insurance!

Best thing to do is get some quotes really - it's all down to what you want/can afford.

And as a small FYI - my FR TDI is on 135k and still runs like brand new!

to get the 312mm brakes what exactly do i need the the kit?

mine is on 79K and i thought that was a lot, but i dont know how well these engines last yet

i still dont know if my car has been mapped from the previous owner, my mate has a skoda fabia VRS and is mapped to 175bhp and i beat him off the lights and cant even catch me so im just wondering if something has been done to it

does the strut brace actually mate that much of a difference

For the 312s I believe you need callipers, carriers, discs and pads, but I'm not overly sure.

The engines seem awesomely strong, even after the mileage mine has done its never missed a beat - as long as you keep it serviced and well maintained I don't see why they wont be good for 200k+

The strut brace has made a slight noticeable difference, but I'd have to take it off now to tell you how the car drives with/without it as its been on for ages. i mainly wanted it to add some colour to the engine bay!

Best way to tell if your car has been mapped it to get it RR'ed and see what power it produces - mine was producing 138bhp standard, and 175bhp mapped.

alright baz

ive got a cupra and my insurance group is 16, its not too bad because of my age though. the pd160 intake is 100mm wide and the standard FR is just 60mm wide i think??
Just means alot more airflow through the intake.

My mates got an FR and hes had the PD160 intake pipe put on and says he notices quite alot of difference, he says it picks up better at lower revs and also revs better up the top end.

Hope some of this is useful.

Do you need different hubs too? Or am I going mad?

You`re not going mad, well no more than normal :p

Mattwood is right that is all you need, and minimum 16" wheels of course!

You will need to change hubs if you have anything less than 288mm. You can get the TT hoses too if you want - as the Ibiza ones are a little short but if you bend the bracket on the strut or pull them through a bit they are ok.
