let me think about this

a 1.8T is built to be driven... the FACT is that ur gonna drive it hard and its nothing to do with driving like a twat but the fact that some one fresh from the test centre with little experience will take a corner too quickly

fair enough its not gonna happen to everyone BUT the point is if u were gonna drive sensible and to the speed limit...why bother with a 1.8T????

purely to show off with more than likely

typpical example...the rep with saxo's and novas is nothing to do with chavs really, but the fact that they are so cheap with insurance that 1 in 3 new drivers will buy one and that they will be driven quickly

in same regards to a cupra...u aint gonna buy one to take the kids and ya grandma down the m4 at 60mph...nothing stereotypical its just that u wouldnt in a car that u could do 100mph instead

and when it comes down to it...lack of experience shows through....otherwise insurance would be cheaper!

18 years of maturity + 1.8T = insanity and death

I think that qoute is totally unfair why does everyone assume that if you're 18 that the only way you can drive is with the right pedal welded to the floor.

Granted alot of 18 year olds dirve like tw@ts but then most drivew nova's etc..

I am 19 and have owned my cupra for just over a year now. I am not dead!
My car still has all the original body panels! and I've never had to claim on my insurance!!

So, before you make implications that every who is 18 wil die the first tine the drive a powerful car think about it!

 well said

same here, anything over £600 for insurance sounds crazy.

Feel free to join us in the real world when you have the time! I say good luck to anyone whos 18 getting insured on anything under £600!

I had a Pug 106 1.1 worth £600, tpft, and the cheapest I could get was just under £1200!

When I I was 18, I bought a Mk1 Golf GTI, and insurance went up £400.

Fact is nowadays, they just screw us because they know we have to have it insured. Sometime's I understand why people just dont bother with insurance, if caught, they wont pay anywhere near that for a fine!

I'm looking for a Cupra now, and ringing round, not really much more expensive than my present car.

By changing cars I've more than doubled my bhp and lessened the weight of the car by a few 100 kgs and yet the Cupra R is only £150 more per year to insure. Insurance depends alot upon what you tell them but even more upon your circumstances, like area, cars use and where it is kept at night...

Agreed, its not all road experience, some people grow up driving/riding, whether it be a Tractor, go-cart, MX or similar, when they get on the roads their far more safe than those who are fresh in the driving seat from their PS2...

Yeah, but what is rediculous is its something like £150 cheaper to have the car registered to my dads house than my mums and yet i know far more thefts go on over at my dads area than they do here.... Find me the sense in that...

Well, because of the latest hike in petrol prices, and because insurance is so damn expensive, I've gone with a Y-plate Ford Fiesta Zetec S. The little thing chips quite nicely for what it is, doesn't handle too bad either thanks to the traction control. And only 1k on the insurance. I will get my Ibiza next year now, or maybe a Leon once my pay from work goes up a little more. (Plus my Mrs wants to get new carpets for our house).

I drool every time I see a Cupra, and have done ever since I went in one last year. So I look forward to turning up sometime to the Herts meet with my Cupra once I have got one.

To a certain extent I agree when people tell me I should wait to get something powerful, I had a mate who had 2 write-offs and blew the engine on another car in his first year of driving. Funnily enough he bought a Cupra as well and has since had no accidents, although he has been driving a few years now.

On the other hand, I think its stereotypical to pigeon-hole all us young lads, as we aren't all the same. The majority of us I suppose drive like d*cks, but its a case of living and learning!

i am 20 paying 1500 with 0 ncb.... on my cupra

but i dont drive like a twat and considering my second car at 17 was a 200bhp rs turbo...which apart from reliabilty is a much quicker car thn the cupra, so the 1.8t cupra is a pusssy cat compairded to the rst's...i would have thought younger ppl would have drove the seat cupra because it is cheap and thn whn u older move to a better car with more power ...an by power i mean 200+ bhp..

although i hear the cupra is a different story after it has been revo'd

but hey i only picked my stock one up fri.....

gotta say argument goes both ways!
not all young drivers are yobs! @ 21 I had 16v audi coupe and paid around £1k for comp ins. now @ 24 pay £475 for ma v5 all in

ONE BIT OF ADVICE MATE
insuring the car in ur mrs name means u are telling the insurane company she will drive the car 75% of the time, unless stated the to and from work cover only covers her not the second driver

i worked for an insurance company for over a year, and have to sort out claims on cars very often in my job.
who ever the insurance company however big and however much legal cover, they will go through all the possible reasons of not paying a claim before they decide to pay it

and in the same breath as they cannot prove who drives it more neither can u
also I have experience insurance companies holdin off claims because they have not been advised of simple things like bagdeless grills and modified gear knobs

21 bought new Toledo @ £80 extra, waiting to see what new price is with 1yr NCB and am 22! under £600 is impossible for under 25's....here at least!

have a lot of driving experience, been driving cars, bikes, even articulated lorry's (rural area, private, but stil experience in something that size!) from age of 13! licence 4.5yrs now at 25k+/yr. gave up a delivery job during gap yr, about 70k+/yr in that alone then add the car! insurance doesnt take into account individual cases like this, just general no experience att his age!

the fact of the matter is.........if your young and you want a vehicle which is fast then your gonna pay through the nose!! If they'll insure you at all......

The only way you may get around the cost is to enquire about the new pay as you go scheme from norwich union.......they install a "black box" in your motor and charge you at whatever rate they decide per mile or however it works....
