Evening guys, I've had my Leon Cupra R for about 4 years now and its still standard. Criminal I know. Starting to get the itch now......

I was wondering when you claim your mods, do you need to tell them every single one, like you've changed the Turbo intake pipe(will they even know what that is) etc?

Just want to make sure I''m doing it right before I go calling them!!

I insured mine with HIC and declared everything as if the worst happened I don't want to be done over , to be fair once you start declaring things it doesn't get much more expensive I found ,
 
Some insurance companies don't go into so much detail that you'd need to claim each engine mod, some i've seen visual or performance enhancing options, price goes up more the performance mods for obvious reasons, but like Alexis27 said, the choice is yours in the end, but if you crash then your screwed and you'll lose any chance of any reimbursement. So the best advice is: Don't crash

And don't forget if you get a normal policy and declare mods, pay the extra the mods are not covered. Ie the car would be repaired to standard. The extra you pay is due to you now being a higher risk.

If you get a modified policy that has like for like cover then they would be covered. They also tend to not charge you for adding extra little things...

Years ago I had a car that was originally turbo diesel but had an engine swap before I got it so it was now the same engine but without turbo, taking a drop of nearly a third of its horsepower. I declared this to the insurance - hoping for a discount - and was stunned to be told my premium was going UP quite a lot.

"It's modified" was the stock response. "Yes, it's LESS powerful than before," was mine. "Yes but it's modified." In the end I agreed to pay the premium as if it had still been standard but refused point blank to pay more "because it's modified" - all of which suggests to me that at least for that insurer it really doesn't matter what is done and it's either standard or modified.
