Bell direct asked me to "take a picture of the flashing LED" on my door card to prove it had a factory GTI alarm

The Mk2 Immo isn't thatcham approved, so you will end up getting one retrofitted to comply

Im insured with Direct Line and they required me to get a Thatcham approved Immobiliser fitted.

Thankfully have a friend who works for Clifford and got one fitted for £50 :)

they gave me a story that "black mk2 gti's were being stolen to order"

which is a shame if its true, but i dont know anyone its happened to, although you dont see many black ones these days

I'm insured with Direct Line, they wouldn't accept the factory immobiliser because, as some have mentioned here already, isn't thatcham approved.

Luckily I had a contact and got one fitted cheap.

I'm with Bell and they never asked me that.... I told them about my Cat 1 Alarm and the insurance price didnt go down, they said as long as you got an alarm factory or Cat 1 it doesn't matter

im with direct line and for the cost it would be to whack a thatcham approved I opted not to get one as it makes little difference for what the insurance company would proved should you need there help!?

thats the way i see it lol

I was with direct line last year and they wanted the same proof from me. Ive got a mk2 8v cupra with just the standard factory fitted alarm and immobiliser. I phoned Seat Uk and from memory im sure they told me it was thatcham approved.
Ill have a look for the letter they sent me. Im sure i even bought some sort of certificate for £10 from the dealer stating this. I wont be going home till friday so will only be able to confirm then.

Don;t forget that if an alarm was Cat 1 when it was released that it may not still be so...

With the world of alarms ever changing the "ticklist" for Cat 1 approval changes, and therefore an olders alarm may no longer fit the Cat 1 list.

Also just remembered that it was on the Thatchamm website which stated that the factory fitted alarm/ immobiliser was thatcham approved.
