Intake air temperatures with induction kit

I recently purchased and installed a BSH induction kit. I have done a few runs with VAG COM alarmingly high in comparison with the stock filter. So much so that I am thinking about going back to stock. I was wondering if the high temperatures is normal? Should I be worried?

The intake appears to be well isolated in the engine bay, so the air going must be quite cold. However, after a spirited drive the temperatures are well... hot... especially close to the turbo.

Excuse my ignorance on this mattter, but everyone has to start somewhere.

Have you got a heat shield on to the 2 mushrooms at the rear of the bay above the turbo?

Not sure where you mean, I have an FR does that make a difference, but i can answer no, i do not have any heatshield. Can I get one to improve the heat soak problem.

at heat sheild above the turbo will prevent a fair bit of heat rising up into the bonnet area and are very easy to fit, try awesome or regal for one

From what I gather te BSH comes with a heatshiled that keeps he cone filter seperate from the engine heat. However the intake tubing that runs parallel to the bottm edge of the windscreen does not have a heatshield underneath it, so the turbo heat is just freely rising up and sakng into the tubing.

You'll need one, most kidts like the neuspeed & ITG come with one. You can make one yourself just need a piece of metal and measure the holes (these are the 2 prongs that held the oiginal cover on, at the back of the engine bay.

Heatshield between the turbo/exhaust manifold and intake pipe should help keep intake temperatures down. Things I have done to keep them down:

Ahhhh thats great thanks guys. Yes thats exactly what I mean, the BSH's cone is definitely well sealed although the tubing does get pretty warm, so I think I need to make myself one of those heatshields. I guess making one is the way forward because of cost? Are there any commercial ones available.

Oh and btw apart from the heat issue I am very impressed with the induction kit. The noise is noticeable and good but not too in your face!

to be honest i would say just make it yourself and give it a lick of gloss black or something to stop it turning all shitty. i could have got you dimensions but my car is not at home just now sorry

Yeah make it yourself, only commercial ones I know of come with the intake kits.

All you need is the distance between those two prongs and then decide your own width and depth.

I'm not sure what the rules are... sometiles my ebay links stay, sometimes they get removed??

Jigsaw with a metal cutting blade, laser cutting (if you know anyone/where that does it).
Dremmel with a metal cutting blade...

a fine toothed jigsaw will give a very nice cut and it can be tidied with a file to give a smooth edge and get rid of any raggies... drill 2 holes in it and you are done

Are you then using the rubber grommets from the original engine cover to secure it?
