AMD emailed me back:

"This isn’t the throttle body, it is the intake manifold flap motor which controls the flaps inside the inlet manifold."

MJ, thoughts?

I dare say some are vacuum operated and some have a motor with a connecting rod. If it's failed and they are sure then stick with their diagnosis mate.

I'm sure they just have a rod, couple of bolts and a plug. Can't be that hard if they've only quoted an hours worth of labour.

I wouldnt bother, been proven not to be a hinderance at your level of power (unless its faulty!) and with proper mapping it can bring the torque in earlier and reduce surge

Variable Intake Manifold Adjusting Unit
---
Volkswagen and Audi models have a tendency to give drivers a P2004 or P2015 error, which is a “Flapper Sensor Failure” code.
If this error appears, chances are it's the Variable Intake Manifold Adjusting Unit. Volkswagen models have a Variable Intake Manifold that is simply brilliant. The variable intake manifold features a flap system governed by the engine control unit that meets both of those demands, channeling the air via the long intake manifold at low revs and through the short section at high revs. Direct from Volkswagen / Audi, this new adjusting unit will have your car performing like new again. A basic setting should be performed after replacement by using a scan tool.
