Intermittent starting problems

Hey,

My Leon has recently developed a problem where, after filling up by more than about half a tank, I have problems starting it.

The last few times this has happened, it has then been fine the next day and onwards

The latest time, however, after brimming the tank the problems starting have continued each day.

It seems that if I leave a space of about an hour and a half between switching it off and then starting it again then it starts first time but if I come home and try to leave again after say 15 minutes it struggles to start and there is a definite smell of fuel once it has started

It definitely fires as if its about to start but then comes to a halt and shudders so I'm not sure whether its getting flooded and stalling the engine maybe ?

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be ?

Thanks in advance! :)

could be a blocked fuel tank breather creating a vacum in the tank making it hard for fuel to be pumped to the engine or maybe crap in the tank.

Have you tried any fuel treatments for example injector cleaner?

It is 8 years old now... maybe the previous owner was one of these people who never go below half a tank of fuel and so filling up brings all the crap to the top

I haven't yet no... cheers for the tip!

I'll book it in for a service as well see if the garage can get to the bottom of it

Cheers for replying mate :)
