iPhone Holder

I've used brodit kit before. Admittedly not for iPhone but Samsung galaxy s4 but kit was really sturdy and well built. It's a bit pricey but definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

Yep have one of these in my 184. Bought the clip part which fits in front of the passenger air vent and close to the infotainment system and an adjustable Brodit iPhone 6+ Phone holder. Got both from Amazon.co.uk. Not cheap but the phone is in the ideal place.

Plus if you change phone, you only need to change the holder and not the mount.

Sounds like a plan. Is it difficult to install? Can it turn landscape? For navigation apps?
 
Doddle to install and comes with full instructions. Mine took 2-3 mins. Always wondered about landscape but I suspect so. I use Waze as its much better at traffic than in built Nav and that works a treat in portrait.

It doesn't turn though without a screwdriver so no easy way to turn.

My brodit turns without the use of a screwdriver. Just loosen the screw a little. Still rock solid
 
I use brodit mount with a Scosche magnet holder. Works brilliantly in portrait and landscape.

I've got the Airframe (not + version) and it works fine in the Leon - it's a nice simple solution and can easily be removed if you occasionally use another vehicle. However it's not going to work in all vehicles as you mention.
 
Brodit car mount and Iphone holder. Had to buy a new holder (which uses a spare original lightning cable) since the one I had before with built-in usb-cable wouldn't work with Apple Carplay, only charging worked.
 
I used many of them mounted on the windscreen or on the air vent, but kenu air frame is the best of them
