Although I have recently purchased a 12" FR TSi, and i bought it because i wanted something sporty looking, SEAT tick that box. But at the same time I wanted something that was going to put a smile on my face every now and again when i just fancied cruising down a B road and flowing from corner to corner as if nothing else mattered apart from the car, the human and the road.

Used to have a diesel... Economy isn't everything, plus what's the point in living if you cant have fun doing so...
:D

Okay, my FR TDi isn't as fast as your TSI engines, nor does it sound as good. But my god it's fun to drive down country roads! Got it lowered on AP coil overs, good quality tyres and XDS set to strong, it's handles so well!

The most important thing about a hothatch,is how it makes you feel! When you've parked your car,if you don't turn around and look at it,youve bought the wrong car! and the amount of time you spend polishing it is enougher one!

I looked at the car today after I parked up.. Admiring yesterdays cleaning efforts.

I can imagine my neighbours take the p when I'm out cleaning..

The same reason we own hot hatches is the same reason a Ferrari owner bought his car.. I can't imagine him discussing mpg figures at the dealership.

Is that the match box or corgi version ?

Am I the only one that prefers the mk2 to the mk3,had a mk3fr pull up behind me and it just looks like a nice normal car! The mk2 has much more sporty credential design.

Didn't like the mk2 when it first came out, then it started to grow on me, then they did the facelift and released the R and I loved it.

When the mk3 was released I thought it was awful now they've released the Cupra I have to say in the right colour and guise I think it looks quite nice, if they do release an R I no doubt will fall into the same trap lol

It's not just you, I prefer the mk2. The mk3 just seems a little bland. Nice car and smart looking sure, but not really that interesting or sporty. It looks like an Audi to be honest, when it should look just a little more outlandish.

The Golf should be 'smart contemporary' and risk averse, the A3 should be posher but still sober, the Octavia should be simpler and have a boot, and the Leon should be a little wacky (but still within the confines of VAG). The mk3 Leon is just too similar to the A3 for my liking. So you end up with choice of a Golf, a cheaper Golf, a more expensive Golf, or an Octavia. There is an interesting article in the Feb Top Gear mag about the MQB and how the approaches of these cars differ, but to me, the difference between the 3 hatches has almost been eroded (looks wise at least).

If I was buying new, my money would be with Skoda and I would be looking at a Tsi Vrs.

That's the words that sums up the mk3 - doesn't look intresting - mind you autoexpress said they wished seat would of been more adventurous on the design and the telegraph commended seat for being restrained! at the end of the day - a hothatch should standout from the rest of the cars, not blend in!
