I still don;t understand the question.

As said, if you're good with cars and your hands, then isn't everything you change yourself DIY?

mine only goes to garage once a year which is for MOT...rest I "do it myself' lol

he is looking for something he can do himself without having to spend any money

and if your looking for gains then your looking in the wrong area. the only things you can really do is tidy up the engine such as polishing, removing vac hose and sensors.
my advice is open ya wallet and get a remap. bhp per £ doesnt get much better than that

right I understand the DIY now.

Remove the sound deadening from engine bay and inside the car and polish the bay like said. there isn't much more...
