Is this an MOT fail?

Quick question, will this fail an MOT?

Just sounds a bit "raspy" and the flexi blows slightly at both ends.
This is carry over damage from the snow we had last year.

If its excessive and alters emissions

Well put it this way, I've never noticed any dip in fuel economy put it that way.

luck of the draw i reckon?
but problem is when it's up in the air it's clearly visible as blowing

Yeah, not much I can do to hide that.

Might just stick it in a see what happens, MOT isn't due till May and the car now only tends to be used 2-3 times a week as I can't afford to run it all the time - so this might go in my favour.

You can get this sorted at a good exhaust fabricator's place, I'd advice buying exactly the correct repair part from www.senior aftermarket.co.uk - that is what I did quite a few years ago after my original fix by my exhaust fabricator proved to be less than pefect!

From what I can see the CAT is in the manifold and this is just after it.

Wouldn't matter if it was before or after the cat, there is a leak, therefore the emissions will be wrong...

Don't know why you'd ask then argue with the advice...

It won't pass with the flexi blowing and in that condition and as said the blow will alter the emissions at the rear....trust me

Any blow from the exhaust system is a fail.

I notice your in glasgow, theres a place in east kilbride simons exhausts he is very good and makes full exhaust systems, he will cut that flexi pipe out and weld in a new one it cost me £60 the last time i was up. He is very good.

Can't edit - why?

Anyway, I've changed the web address of the supplier, these people make these flexi sections for exhaust manufactures and also supply repair flexi section that have short rigid stubs that you can cut to size. If the exhaust place just use as close as they have - they can't carry the full range, then you will usually end up getting a flexi section that is too short, and that will cause noise, in my case they also used a section that was big large in diameter and that caused nasty resonances. When challenged about the effectivness of the repair, they denied that anything I said was true and could be contributing to the fouling and resonances that the car's exhaust now had - they design and fabricate exhausts for a living, which is true! My only way out was to use the measure of misalignment - rubber mount was too far forward so it touched the crossmember when reversing up my driveway, and also measure the exhaust diameter at the flexi points, then order in the correct part which I paid them to fit - result, exhaust as good as new!

In your case, don't worry about the outer protective wire mesh being bulging, by do worry about the general exhaust misalignment as the exhaust should be in the centre of the heat shield - I'd expect the exhaust place to be smart enough to realign the exhaust before replacing the flexi. I used the place in Falkirk, useful pleasant enough guys, probably good at knocking a new exhaust up for an American car or a Capri or Jap import, but not smart enough to return a leaking Polo 9N exhaust to as good as new first time round.

Now I can edit this one, make sure you get the ILOK option as this flexi is near the manucat.
