If you were to tune it ,, i would first think of

whats the service history the car .(This must be taken into consideration)
And the services you intend to do after a remap/chipping.

Also depending on the answers you find for the above, you will have to think about the gains you are expecting from the 193k engine.

If your can came into my garage for tuning , i would ask you the same questions and then make a decision with you on the increases your car can have.

Personally i would suggest you ONLY had a mild tune to increase driveability and NOT for massive power.

its got fsh to 125K then regular oil changes every 6-7K and recently a full service, including timing belt, all engine cleaned and decoked and a changed diesel pump. new monroe shocks right round, and gonna do the brakes soon. it still runs spot on and doesnt smoke. (its already fitted with a k+n filter)

Jabba told me the best ever 1.8T (standard) engine they remapped was on a 150,000 mile Seat Leon. Sometimes the better the engine is run in, the better it will tune up. :) Same could well apply to diesels as well.

Generally though I would say any TDI would remap well, as long as its done as a minimum, the usual 2,000 odd mile to run-in, and then perhaps another 3,000 just to be sure.

Just tune it and blow the bugger up! You're gonna struggle to sell a 200k+ car anyway :D
 Then you've got an excuse to replace it with a better engine :)

I'd say so long as it's been serviced well, isn't smoking much, not using much oil and sounds healthy you should be fine.
