Evening all,
Whilst heading back down from t'frozen north this afternoon/evening (GF driving due to my alcohol consumption ) she pointed out that either A. It had gone rather warm as external temp display was showing 8.5 degrees or B.it was broken.
Anyone else had an issue with this thingy ? Slightly pi55ed off tbh as this was an issue with last Leon too...
Just been out to check and car has been parked since 20.00 and still says 7.5 degrees , it's covered in ice, Passat says -1, my super duper weather station says 0,and my nads are looking for a brass welder. So it's still bust/lying. Will check in morning if it's not behaving itself and assuming I'm sober it'll be off to the dealers..... [:@]

The problem with car temperature sensors is there is pretty much no where you can put it and have it be accurate.

If you put it anywhere near or in the engine bay, it is going to report too high of a temperature (and will do for many hours after the car is turned off, because they take so long to cool down).

Any where near the tyres and you'll have the same issue. Tyres get hot, as does the entire wheel. If you mount it on an external part of the car, the paint is going to radiate heat too on a sunny day, giving hot readings.

So I would never expect it to be very accurate to be honest. Though yours does seem quite far out. Try and take notice what temp it is reporting after having a good 12 hours to cool down over night. If it's still wrong then, you probably do have an issue. Other than that I guess it's just bad design. Maybe some other Leon owners can chime in.

Sensor sits right at the front behind the lower grill, never had an issue with Passat one in 70k, this is the second Leon one that's gone haywire. Problem is it affects heating, last one was reading 50 degrees when external temperature was actually 10, so heating continually blew cold air. Not sure what else it can affect . Never known one on any other car reading more than 2-3 degrees different to what the external temperature actually is. I'll check tomorrow morning, if it's still miles out (more than 2 degrees either way) it's going to dealers.

Hmm - not good. Presumably quite an easy fix at least.

Well, despite both cars being covered in ice/frost, Leon is doing its best politician impressions - lying through its teeth with the temperature at 7.5 . . . Off to the dealers I go

Sounds like a duff sensor, should be a two minute job to change I'd have thought.

Good start though eh ;)

Yup, booked in for tomorrow first thing as only one tech on today and he was rather busy. Not a major issue ( although could be if it goes completely haywire) Just irritating. Must admit I'm struggling to feel the love at the moment, Blue R was on forecourt and I had a longing look.... and a brief wonder if we could afford both....
Any news on your new ride?

Take it the dealer leave it over night for dealer to take reading of temp gauge in morning , read the SEAT bulletin do some tweaks send you on you way, still same problems take it back leave for another day take some photos send them to seat UK claims department, wait days weeks for authorization (good luck) then order part and leave car for another day.

Had the same issue when I bought my Mk4 Ibiza, had so many issues with it that meant so many trips back to the garage that I got to the stage where I was hating the car, it took me a long time to get things sorted and start enjoying it again.

The R was defintely a more striking car, I'm not surprised you haven't fully warmed to the new one yet.

Nothing as yet, but like everywhere I think they are closed over the Christmas/New Year period, rough estimate is still Jan/Feb, so I'm expecting end of Feb (anything before that is a bonus :))

I can't see them wanting the car overnight, you sound like you've had an unhappy exeprience with a dealer.

Didn't have that problem last time tbh, it went in at 9.00 and was back by 2 new part fitted. Not expecting instant fix if they have to order part, especially at this time of year. Its not a major issue, car still driveable, if it gets to the stage where heating stops blowing warm air GF can have it back and I'll use Passat :D

Very sorry just being sarcastic my problem is with rear lights

Good luck with getting it sorted out.

Just too a look at you old R on the Seat used car site does look really nice. I went to get a price on a new SC FR, yesterday but I am still not 100% sure, looks wise I think there is a `presence` about the mk2 that's missing from the mk3. Having said that I will still probably get one.

A good motor, one careful lady owner ( GF) ;)

Fixed, drove in at 8.25, drove out 9.30. New sensor fitted job's a good un. Back to 'running it in'

I'm struck by the generous nature of my fellow Leon drivers.
That a bloke should deprive his dog of a cumfy jumper just to help his fellow man....sniff, sniff.
fair warms the cockles of your heart, it does.
