Issue with my cupra

Just a quick breakdown so far

Got it a few weeks ago and loved it from the off. Think it needs new cv joints in the future, but had it on my mates mot and he said it all looks pretty good.

Took it for a vag com check with a local guy as thought it was a safe thing to do with a new car.
No fault codes but he said it felt flat especially in 4/5/6 going up the rev range-hes worked with a fair few of these. he said its pretty smooth just lacks the go it should have-it isnt as bad in 1,2,3 but definitely doesnt pull like Id think it would

Checked the data logs and it is asking for boost and seems to be getting it but is pulling back the ignition at points into the 7s on one cylinder.
Ive got an excel spreadsheet I can forward someone if anyone feels confident in taking a look and guessing the problem.

I changed the maf for a new one, no joy, spark plugs look ok (pulled no.1 and 2 out for a look) new air filter made no difference.

egr/secondary air pump was unplugged. Ive plugged that back in. Is it possible to remove this-does it help getting rid or is it best to leave it. Some of the plastic pipework has been taped up a bit

He said it looked like the air flow figures were a bit low.

thinking of what could be wrong

vac leak-had a look and there is one hose that had a slight split from the cam cover on the passenger side. super glued that just for the time being until I get to the stealer.

blocked cat/exhaust system-maybe act's getting to high and its retarding ignition??

blocked or collapsing boost pipe??

lamda?? seemed to be changing on the vag com live figures thing

buggered recirc valve maybe? it flutters a bit on gear changes/letting the load off

other ideas from more experienced folk?

It seems a little bit pants on fuel too.

Im getting the throttle body rest tonight-i cleaned it on Monday and putting it on an mot gas analyiser tomorrow to see what the emmissions are.

Any help is most appreciated, I hope what I have put down so far makes sense.

I hope it's not 200hp!!

As far as I know it is standard, vag com chap didn't say otherwise

Was v power but now shell or bp 95.last 3 tanks

Was v. Low and put 20 of v power in.made little to no difference in performance

I understand v power will help but it cannot make this much difference surely? I can't afford a rolling road for a month or 3 as that would be a step to see what it's pushing out and gather more info.

Youd need at least a couple of tanks for the ecu to adapt. You could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to reset the adaption which might speed things up. 95 will rob some power so that might be the cause...

Your engine requires 98 RON fuel, as it tells you in the owners manual.

Using 95 RON will cause the knock sensors to pull back the ignition timing, exactly as you describe.

Bang on ... [B)]

I ran mine on 95 for all of 2hrs... it ran so badly I went and filled it up with vpower and octane booster!

Will put v power in for the next 2 weeks-3 tanks or so and see if that improves it as you guys suggest. I didn't appreciate that v power on a totally standard car would cause such a difference.

Will still check the cat anyway. No harm in a good down pipe and car next month.

Doesn't have to be Vpower, other brands do 98 RON , even Tesco and Morrisons apparently?

The car will not produce its rated power on 95 RON fuel.

Wouldn't trust morrisons myself. Shell is the cheapest high Ron fuel in my sort of area hence the choice.

Will see how it goes and hope that it does improve with the right fuel

Swapped the recirc valve over. Mine was goonered.
Only difference I can notice is no flutter now.

V power in the tank. Will see what the difference is over this tank but not holding my breath.

Anyone know anything on this secondary air pump and whether it can all be got rid of? Couldn't find it on my mates s3

Cheers
