Just some first few day ownership tips:
Check everything is OK and get them sorted sooner rather than later.
Watch the wheels as they have a protruding face. Most alloys are relatively flat so if you are not used to it, they could catch you out.
If you want to get some protection on wax / film or otherwise do it sooner rather than later
Paint those brake disc hubs where there is no contact on the pads. Easier now to prevent the rust than sanding down and painting over.
Choose your run in procedure. Either warm up and drive her like you hate her or follow the manual. Once done, you will not be able to change it.
Get your name onto a Seat Track / ESP day as it is very enlightening, plus you get to rag the nuts off one that is not your own.
And most importantly:
Smile.

...Am I missing something? Does this imply that both methods of running in are going to have implications on performance later on? I always thought the standard run-in was 1000 miles, vary speed as often as poss but keep the revs fairly low.

I haven't got mine yet, so haven't seen the manual but I assumed what I've just written is the general rule-of-thumb (ie don't rag it for the 1st 1000...) ?

Diesels need thrashin' from the off, petrols as per manual, that's if you want to look after it!!

Hi Gizza

The reason why I posted it up was that based on previous cars I have owned and those of my friends (Understand that different marques may have a factor here) the engines which has been driven hard during the first 1000 miles have had better total power, less oil usage and much more reliable engines compared to the same engine that was ran in as per the manual.

Most people don't worry and get on with it, however if you are one of those people who bother about making the differntiation, it caan be important.

This is for petrol engines only. I have no experience of diesels.

Sorry to drag this one up but with my car having just landed at Irfan's I am now wondering how to drive the thing. I always thought I had it sussed, drive it across the rev range but don't accelerate too hard. Should I be pushing harder then?
