Jolting whilst driving

Hi all
Have a seat Leon 63 plate FR. Wonder if anybody could help.
Whilst driving the car it all of a sudden just jolts feels kind of like the brakes are being pressed hard (but doesn’t slow down).
It’s hard to explain but it’s like a sudden hard jerk and still drives fine. Happened 3 times the other night whilst going round a roundabout it done a massive one to the point I thought somebody hit my car and then on the way back on the motorway there was 3 little ones.
Like I said it’s hard to explain but has anybody had similar issues because I can’t seem to find another post regarding the issue

As it happens when the car it more loaded up on one side when going around a roundabout, it could be suspension related with something like a broken spring, etc. Get it checked out at a local garage or Kwik-Fit that should probably do a free healthcheck.

Someone on here had an ABS module/pump fault which gave similar issue I think.

Morning mate thankyou for your reply. I’ve had a look through the forums but can’t seem to find any, I’ll have another look when I get time, cheers. I was sitting in it this morning and it did it whilst it was idling and then fine the whole way to work

Had it all checked over bud, it’s been to the dealership I got it from and they can’t seem to find anything with it, when I’m explaining it to them I must sound crazy lol. No fault codes either.

Hmm, the thread I was thinking of was actually a locking wheel: So a little different to your fault.

I see you also have another thread - High idle and fans running. Did you get to the bottom of this?
If not - maybe they are related to an electrical fault?

Thinking out loud - the revs should pick up when you touch the clutch pedal - maybe this clutch switch is playing up?

Do you have auto/radar braking?

I did mate the garage had the DPF chemical cleaned but was still doing it and the light came on so they took it to a specialist who dropped the DPF off and done it that way and put a new pressure sensor on, so far it idles fine and no fans.
The issue I’m having now they thought it would have been related to the DPF but no still happening lol. It’s intermittent so doesn’t do it all the time and they drove it like 20 miles and it never happened to them… typical
No auto braking or radar on my car either mate it feels like the brakes are being slammed on is the only way to describe it but it doesn’t slow down or lose speed. Baffled lol

Ah ok,
Some have had problems with the crank sensor:
Cuts the engine out for a split second - which could feel like the brakes coming on?
Clutch debris seems to collect on the crank sensor (next to the clutch) and cause intermittent power loss:

Oo that could be another possibility but the car starts straight away off the key with no power loss, when it’s jolted I haven’t noticed it cutting out and I haven’t restarted it if it has. It’s definitely some sort of sensor but have no idea which. The garage I’m taking it back to asked me if it seems like a misfire when it happens but it’s a strange one to even describe

This sounds very similar to what I’m going through atm. I have a 65 plate FR and it’s jerking/jolting loads as I’m driving. It’s annoying because also no fault codes but I had a mechanic come out on a drive with me and it happened a couple of times but all it showed on his comp was a dip in air intake when it happened. I changed the MAF sensor and it still hasn’t made any difference. Have you managed to figure out what’s going on with yours @LC_Tom? I’ve contacted a few vag specialists today but as you said it’s hard to explain because it’s intermittent

Hi mate. Unfortunately I ended up taking it back to the dealership and having my money back as it got ridiculous problem after problem saying it’s fixed and driving it for a day to still have the same problem I dropped it off with lol and them having it more than me, such a shame really because it was a lovely car. They did say they changed the crank sensor also and it should have fixed the problem but it was still the same. Somebody on here did mention about maybe a faulty fuel pump or dirty intake valve so i don’t know if it could be that? Sorry couldn’t be more help

Ahh ok no worries. Thanks for letting me know. I’m way past the point of returning to the dealership, had the car for nearly 3 years. It’s only started happening since I had the water pump and timing changed in September. I’ll just have to wait for one of the garages to fit it in.

Ah that’s fair enough, well hopefully you get it all sorted and it’s not a major fix for you pal

Could be the timing, which may have been disturbed when they changed the water pump if they didn't lock the pulleys in place.

According to the specialist I took it to, the timing seems fine. Ran some test while driving around the block and cleanest report he’d seen for a long time. Doing MOT next month and he’s going to give it a more visual check.
