jumpy revs on full load

Hi all.

I have a bit of a weird issue that doesnt always happen but usually happens if my foot is flat in 4th-6th. When the car gets between 3k-4k rpm, the revs seem to go jumpy, either going down and then back up or vice versa. Past this or before the car is fine.

Its had revo stage 1, forge dv and had a new pcv valve a couple of months ago, due to it searching for revs a couple of months ago. I also had an amd induction kit fitted last week but the issue started a couple of weeks ago.

its had diagnostics and nothing has come up and I've been told I need to put the standard air box back on for further testing.

Anyone got any ideas?
 
Either the clutch is slipping which is common on remapped cars, particularly the Cupra.
Or your car isn't getting enough traction and traction control is kicking in to slow the other wheels down to allow them to be moving at the same speed.
 
Does the traction contol light come on at the same time? Can't see it being loss of traction myself, especially those gears at those revs.

More likely to be clutch slip or maybe your cam follower is fecked. how many miles you done?
 
I get this on my pd170 stage 2. Usually seems to be at 3000 rpm there's a drop. No TC light or anything :S

The TC light does not come on. It does if I boot it at low revs in 1-3 but that's to be expected. I will try without TC on though to see if it changes anything.

The car's done 57k. I thought it possibly be the clutch or maybe MAF sensor? Car seems to boost OK generally though.

Any further ideas would be welcomed as I am not particularly car savvi when it comes to technical aspects :)

I had something similar I changed my spark plugs up one heat level NGK and I had a coil pack that would only drop a misfire now and again but usualy in 3rd to 6th gear between 3.5k to 5.5k rpm, i had to vagcom it for 1 hour before it showed on cylinder 3 FTTF that was.
 
Do you mean you changed the plugs to resolve the issue or the new plugs caused the issue? I am going to get someone else to take a look to see what they think about the clutch etc.

Given the symptoms you are describing and the fact you have done 57k and it's a Cupra (you must give it the beans every now and then ;)) I'd say clutch slip almost certainly.
 
So clutch slip is a potential then? Would it not be happening at all revs and gears if the clutch was an issue?

This is strange as I noticed this on my cupra R which has a revo stage 1 when I was on the motorway today my car has only done 12500 miles and I don't drive the car hard at all only now and then I will give it the beans if I want to go by someone I have the sps switch so I put the car back to standard for about half an hour then changed it back and it seems to have stopped doing it now. I'm wondering if a phone call to Revo to see if they can shine some light on the issue. The other problem I incurred when I plugged the sps in to put it back to standard I had the brake wear light come up on the dash but I wouldn't think the brakes would be worn yet would they...??
 
I was considering the Forge jobbie as a replacement for my standard valve but I've heard nothing good about it so I'll stick with the stock equipment I think, especially given the cost of the Forge one.

It's a bit strange though as the 007p I had on my mk4 was a great bit of kit :shrug:
 
Fair enough. It just came with the package I bought when it was remapped. Worst case scenario I will grab a revision D or G or maybe stretch to that GFB DV+.

I am going to take it to another independent in the new year and ask them to look at it. They do not do remaps etc so they should look at the car from a more mechanical side of things rather than trying to blame my induction kit not working with the remap (the issue occurred BEFORE the kit was put on).
 
Strangely, car didn't do this on the way home this evening. Only thing I have done is topped the oil up yesterday and re-screwed the oil cap in as the clip part had gone wonky and so was not sitting flush :|
