Just a few questions!

Hey guys,

Got a few question so I thought I'd make a new thread as people have many different answers.

I have a candy white cupra, I've searched for the best cleaning products but everyone has a different approach. I basically want my car to be looking nice and glossy all the time, how do I go about getting this finish? Could people recommend sealants and waxes and shampoos ect? And what order to apply them in?

Secondly, my USB port charges my phone but won't let me play music directly through it, is there some sort of update to allow this, I have a htc one m8. My bluetooth works and my aux port too but would like to be able to play media through my USB port.

From my understanding the usb only works with mass storage, usb stick, hard drive etc. Phones work differently as they use MTP, most radios don't support this. I'm guessing you have the 1st face-lifted cupra if you can stream music through Bluetooth.

Right I see. I have a 2011 pre facelift, can't stream music through the Bluetooth just make calls through my phone

I have a pre facelift and the same phone, just have to live with aux or replace the radio.

White is a very hard colour to get shiny. The White asbsorbs reflections so you'll never get that mirror like finish you see in black cars.

In basic tearms you'll want to:
wash (shampoo)
Clay
wash again
Polish
Glaze
Wax or sealant (wax is natural, sealant is man made).

Depends how intense you want to go, though.

I use Autoglym products only (mainly because my Dad is a Franchisee for them )

But in my massively biased opinion I can say that nothing compares to their product range! No seriously they are the best of the best. It really does help that we have literally every single product of theirs at home so I spend hours every Sunday cleaning, polishing, waxing etc.

A quick wash goes as follows:

Blast the car with pressure washer, Apply Autoglym Acid Wheel Cleaner to the wheels, Apply Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo, Blast it off, Apply Autoglym Aqua Wax to car, Use leather to semi-dry the car and rub in the Aqua Wax, Use Micro-fibre cloth to fully dry the car.

Then if I feel the car needs a bit more attention I apply Autoglym Super Resin Polish to the car, leave to sit for 30 minutes, then buff it off using a Micro-fibre cloth. Or use one of their clay bar kits to pull off all the crap the Shampoo doesn't remove! I then use various other Autoglym products to clean the plastics, the windows, the windscreen, the rear window, mirrors etc.

The interior of the car is a whole other story. As most people on here would I hoover the car, brush the seats whip the dash etc. But maybe once a month I fully wash the seats with Autoglym Car Interior Shampoo.

How you wash your car is really down to you, but if you have any questions or queries give me a shout. If I don't know the answer my Dad definitely will!

BUUT:
wash
(meguiars/any decent shampoo will do) 2 bucket method, wash mit not spounge.
clean wheels, ironX/dragons breath/Billberry (products to squirt on and wash off).

Clay
meguiars do a clay kit for 17quid at halfords, it works well use it on every surface.

wash again
same 2 bucket method

Dry everything, you can use a quick detail spray and a few microfibers to get it as dry as possible

Polish
most polishes will do, autoglym super resin polish has lots of fillers so will be perfect for hand use. (recomend using order about 5 packs of these there super handy

Glaze
Poor boys Diamond white glaze.(apply with foam aplicator, remove with microfibre)

Sealant
poor boys EX-P or Chemical guys Jet seal 109 (apply with foam aplicator, remove with microfibre)

Wax
Dodo juice Diamond White, followed by some PoorBoys Nattys White paste wax.(apply with foam aplicator, remove with microfibre)
(optional) Tyre Shine(meguiars do a tyre gel thats really good)

do this once every 6 months and ur golden.
interim washes:
wash, 2 bucket.
wheels.
dry.
(optional) nattys wax top up.

If your car is already shinny I've found that nothing keeps the original shine like Autoglym's Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner. I wash my car using Meguiar's lambswool wash mitt, it's really soft. One common mistake people do is washing their car without a pattern. Always use the top down method because if you don't you could transfer mud and debris from the bottom of the car to the top and scratch the paint.

Once a year I use clay and Autoglym's HD wax. Not a fan of polishes because they work by removing a tiny layer of paint (thankfully I don't have any swirls or scratches).

I personally find auto finesse products to be the best, but that's just my opinion. All the steps laid down above are good though.

As others have said white can be tricky, Queens car looks great. With most colours extra time spent means extra gloss achieved, with white you get to the point quicker where there is nothing extra to be gained, if that makes sense. I have had a white MR2 for the last 5 years and although not as satisfying as detailing our black Ibiza I am pretty happy with the results I achieve. IMO the most important thing is to get the paint spotlessly clean. This is the process I used when I first got the car changing it from creamy looking white to pure white.

Wash (AG Shampoo is great)
Clay car (I used meguiars clay)
Meguiars Stage1 Paint Cleaner (this as a chemical cleaner and the difference it made was astounding)
Bilt Hamber Cleanser Polish (this also cleans further,polishes and protects)

I have experimented with various Sealants and Carnuba based waxes. And for me on white I prefer the clean look of a sealant like the Bilt Hamber, keeps the fresh look, wax adds a warm glow.
