just bought a toledo which i am very happy with.

i want to get new alloys and im trying to decide whether tog et 16" or 17" and also whther to get the 5 spoke cupra style alloys or the multispoke leon alloys.......does anyone have any opinions/info/ and pictures to help me out?

i cant find many examples of 17" fitted to a toledo....i've seen a few 16" and i want to see whther the difference will be worthwhile or not

thanks!

oh thanks, nice one....pics look pretty good, think im gona go with the 17's, might even get it lowered as well......some very nice lookin toledos here tho

well this one is my old one, 17" leon cupra alloys, lowered 30mm on eibach springs

one word for you mate...PHAT

thats basically wat i wana do to my car.....im a bit of a modding novice, can you tell me a bit more bout lowering plz.....just the basics and the rough costs?

nice wheels man......wat engine is it?

i got a 1.6 s (i know i know....insurance purposes.....very unclean license and under 25 is not a good combo lol)

i'll have to take some photos

lol cheers mate. theres 3 ways to do lowering really, lowing springs alone, lowering springs with uprated dampers, or coilovers. lowering springs alone is your cheapest option, coilovers most expensive. you get what you pay for basically.

i hit lucky with the black one because i found a set of used eibachs on ebay n they were only about £65. they didnt affect the ride too much, but at the moment on my silver one i have jamex springs which were only about £75 and they are horrendous. iv only ever done lowering springs alone and i work at a garage so iv always had me mates fit them for me for bugger all.
the black one was a standard TDi 110, and the one i have now is a 150 TDi remapped to 190bhp :D

im still under 25 and as of last month have a very unclean license lol, so bugger knows how il afford insurance renewal next month eeeek

nice.....so basically i need to buy lowering springs and get someone to fit them for me, right?

if so, what lowering springs do i need....cus they're all different measurements, like u said u had urs lowered 30mm....does that mean u bought 30mm lowering springs?

30mm lowering springs 'should' give you a 30mm drop, but most if not all will take time to settle, and may end up lower. I wouldn't go any further than 30mm without changing the shock absorbers as well.

My car also runs 17 inch Leon wheels, similar 5 spoke 'twins' but they're more of a square section? I still haven't found what version they came from, some Cupra's have similar wheels but in an 18.

As for fitting, you've got yourself one of the easiest cars to work on. You should at least give it a go, it's not a difficult job. Even if you're not 100%, you've got to do the rears yourself, my mum could swap the rears with no trouble at all!

lol, maybe i shud be talking to her! plus i have NO tools.....i cant even raise the car....(do i need to raise the car? lol)

im gonna read up on it, would love to be able to do it myself.

can anyone suggest some lowering springs please? does the make/model make much difference....whther theyr used/new?

u guys r way helpful

You should at least get yourself a jack, you'll no doubt have a flat tyre or want to rotate the tyres at some point.

As for brands, I didn't think it made much difference to springs as they're just windings of steel, but if Michael felt the difference between Eibach and Jamex then they must be something in them. The good news is that since you have a 1.6, you should be able to do some digging and pick up some used Golf 4 springs for a decent price. I wouldn't buy used shock absorbers, but used springs seem reasonably to me. Unfortunately I didn't have that option, my V5 is limited to the stiffer suspension normally fitted to the diesels and bigger engines.

oh yea i def have a jack! didnt think it would be enough to do the job.....will just have to see i guess

u did remind me of something tho....on my current standard alloys, one of the locking wheel nuts on each alloy is a different shape to the others, i have the attachment to be able to unscrew them t=but it wont work, i think the nuts have ]been rounded off inside so im not gettin the right grip to be able to unscrew them....is there any way around this? can i just take it to any tyre guy n have them undo it somehow or is it more complicated than that?

I had the standard SEAT locking nuts on mine, that were stripped bare. I managed to get three off with brute force, but the fourth was impossible. I took it to the local National Autocentre and they removed it for me for a fiver cash. Took them about twenty seconds!

I don't know of any locking wheel nut that can't be removed given enough force and determination. I replaced mine with standard bolts, it is a risk but I have no faith in locking wheel nuts. They seem to give the owner more trouble than the potential thief!

nice one, yea think im gona have to do something similar....shame its the only way to secure them tho, might look to see if there are any decent quality ones out there.....thanks alot for the advice, top blokes!
