Went out today for a test drive at Marshalls Seat in Cambridge in a Ref Sport 2.0TDI complete with advertising banners :D

I was pretty impressed, dealer was happy for us to go out alone and we missed our turnoff on the carriageway so ended up going a bit longer than planned. The car seemed very comfortable and quiet, good pull on it for overtaking even in 6th gear, I'm not a real expert of these things but it definitely felt better handling than my old one.

Got back to the dealers and they had valued my car (03 Seat Leon 1.9TDI 110bhp, only 12,000 miles on the clock) at £8k which I was pretty impressed with as I had thought that Parkers part exchange value of £7.5k was very optimistic.

Before going I had priced up new Leon on Drivethedeal.com and I didn't expect them to match the £16k for the 2.0TDI Sport (with Xenon's, parking sensors, bluetooth, spare wheel, heated seats, auto mirror/wipers/lights) and Marshalls came with a total for about £18k with all the options and did not want to budge from that price, although he was willing to give another £250 on the part exchange. He was very surprised with the price of the drivethedeal website and couldn't see how they could do it for that price.

I realise that if I buy it off the 'web' then I will have to privately sell my car which is a right pain as there is a 12 week build time on the new car, and if anything is wrong with it when it arrives such as damaged paint then it would need to go back to the dealers!

So I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the offer?

Thanks :)

I have bought mine from Direct Seat and they do part exchange as well. Might want to give them a go.

Well today we went to MK Seat in... Milton Keynes and my mum was also interested in replacing her Seat Toledo with a new Leon. We inquired about any discount on buying two new cars and apparently their idea of a discount is the list price and little less in part exchange than what was offered by Cambridge  the sales women kept saying this was the 'starting price' but no matter what we said she didn't actually want to reduce it!

I then asked her to price up a new Leon with the same optional extras as above and she came back with the same sheet price plus the standard prices for all the options which I had already handed her printed off from Drivethedeal!

We will probably go back to Cambridge and see if they will do any better deal with the offer of two new Leon sales. TBH I'm not completely confident ordering such an expensive thing over the internet even if it does end up with you dealing with a brick and mortar dealer.

Thanks for your help! :)

Just ordered mine from perrys - Aylesbury, they came within a few hundred of drivethedeal but made it up on the p/ex value. Not sure if they have any offers on the TDI

Similar experience to me.

I was willing to deal with my local dealer if they would match the price I could get to sell for my car with the local VW dealer and get close to the price that DTD were offering. I was very annoyed that the gap, at best, was still £950. :censored:

I sold my old Bora to my local VW dealer the next day and ordered the Seat from DTD (two week wait). I collect on Wednesday. The dealer in London has been very attentive since we were 'introduced' and I anticipate no trouble.

NB I was very worried about being conned when I bought the Bora via DTD 3 years ago so I know what you mean. Generally speaking when a deal is too good to be true .. it is! However, my first DTD purchase was perfect and I'm expecting the same this time.:)

I've ordered my new 2.0 TDi Sport from drivethedeal.com - the 12 week build time suited me because my current car is a contract hire that concludes in 12 weeks

Can't wait though

Well I think I am going to go via Cambridge Marshalls, I've not had any problems with them in the past and they are someone to talk to if i have any issues, I will probably go up on Saturday. The 12 week wait is the real pain, I'm so impatient :)

Thanks everyone for your advice

Well I went to the dealer and did the deal :)

Had some last minute nerves about zenith grey as the Toledo in the showroom looked almost black, fortunately they had a Leon on the forecourt and it looked great so that convinced me.

I've also asked them for the honeycomb grille which they included in the order.

I did ask about volumetric sensors on the alarm as they didn't seem to have the button to disable them. He went outside and wound the window down locked the car up and left it for a few minutes then stuck his arm in the car and there was no alarm... it wasn't until be tried to open the door from inside that it began giving a warning chirp. So does anyone know for certain if the new Leon has volumetric sensors?

The 12 week wait is gonna be painful :(

Thanks

Me and the Girlfriend got a really good deal at MK SEAT...

Car £16,800 - TDI sport with xenons/park assist/bluetooth/sparewheel/GAP/Mp3

Thats taking a 40k Focus tdci sport in part ex at 6,800 which is a very good price for them :0)

Car should be with us at the end of may.

I have the a Leon Stylance and it has Volumetric sensors, not sure where they are located though. There is no button to deactivate them though. You can deactivate them by pressing the lock button twice on the key.

I only discovered this by accident when cleaning the windows one day. They were all down a fraction and I locked the car, about a minute later the alarm started going.

Oh and I tried the arm through open window test and it works on mine!

Thats a good price, would have been an option if they would have taken in the Focus as part ex. it was valued at £6,800 38k on it 12 weeks later 42k on the clock and they are still give us the same money.:bleh:

Perhaps a trip to your local Ford dealer? Generally speaking dealerships buy as well as sell and tend to give slightly better 'real' prices than manafacturer's dealers.

Of course, the important figure is always the 'cost to change' not the sale/px numbers. Your local dealer was offering a CTC of £10k, so an offer of anything above £6k for your PX from a Ford Dealer would make a difference if you took the DTD price for the SEAT.

Obviously, if you have signed already then it's too late.

Check out www.whatcar.co.uk or look in their magazine to get their recommended price. Im on my 3rd Seat at the 3rd dealer. 1st was ****, 2nd moved bit too far away n I went to this one n said Im fed up of the others so dont wanna use them , Id gotten a good quote (£1000 of list) from online but id rather deal with a bricks n mortar dealer. They didnt quite match the online quote but gave me the whatcar recommended price which was bout £950 off list.

Give that a whril maybe

What car shows a lower target price than the list on all the leons accept bizarrely the TFSI, which is set at the same as list.

Their target for the TDI sport is £15,191 (against a £16,495 list)

I have been looking arround at prices for a TFSi with Black metallic. I have been quoted the following:

Main Dealer No1 £16,345 (List), yes he was serious
Main Dealer No2 £15,345 (£1000 discount), with a little nudging, but still room to manouver
Broadspeed.com £14,893 (£1452 discount) this is Top Gear Mag target price
Drivethedeal.com £14,479 (£1866 discount)

As the px I am being offered on my Celica is crap, it looks like its Auto Trader for the Celica and Drive the deal for the Leon

I hopethis is not construed as advertising, I just thought people might be interested in my research

Cheers

Chris

Chuckie, Perrys in Aylesbury still had a new black TFSI for sale with £1250 off a week or so ago. They gave me a very fair price on my part exchange as they have a 2nd hand car sales division so will sell it on themselves.

Could be worth a look.

By the way, it looks like the TFSI is becoming a bit of a bargain as they ramp down sales in anticipation of the FR, so now could well be the time to snap one up :)

Chuckie

I p/x my Celica for a TFSI, and got a pretty good deal. Try Robinsons Seat in Lowestoft and ask for Pete, (01502) 568919 :D

Good luck, say Rob recommended you.
