Evening guys,

Been looking through internet sites and many forum posts regarding going k03/k04 hybrid, This would be by far the cheapest option for me bearing in mind I already have a 3" downpipe and a FMIC with all appropriate size pipes for the K03's currently on the car. iv been looking in to going stage 2 or custom map and am starting to think that whilst im at it i might just go hybrid turbo at the same time.

all my finding and research was completely confused with finding a K04-001 which looks identical to a standard K03 turbo but apparently has more flow over a K03s so is this almost like a K03 hybrid from factory?

above is a link to what ecs say about this turbo charger

any one with any experience with this turbo unit? Any help would be great as this would be able to be purchased a lot sooner then if i was to go get my K03S hybrid built by some one.

Many thanks
Jason

So after investigating further Iv answers my own question and for any one else interested here's some more info:

BorgWarner K04-1 turbo. This is designed as a factory upgrade turbo for K03 VAG 1.8T 20V motors. This turbo flows approx 5-6 BHP more than the K03s turbo (found on 180 BHP models) at the top end of the rev range but it's major gain is that it holds boost pressure for much longer than the K03s so you get better power delivery throughout the rev range. In some cases we have had feedback of customers acheiving 280 BHP through this turbo.

Iv read through mixed reviews the information above is from backdraft Motorsport, I bought a brand new K03s from them about 2 years ago wish I had known about this at the time as i would have just gone and bought this. It seems most people will buy this if their turbo goes up the swamy as almost an oem+ upgrade rather than a turbo upgrade, it has better flow characteristics than the K03s and will hold 22psi boost through the revenge according to most.

I can't find any genuine ones at a decent price or any second hand units. I'm wanting to achieve around 260-280 bhp ultimately this would be a cheap option to get their if indeed the claims I have read are correct

I bought one of these although it was listed as a ko3s but it didn't have any Borg Warner branding so sent it back some are copy's

Indeed, i searched on eBay for a second hand unit and their where only the knock off copy's from china or USA abalone on their, their only about £200 but I would rather stick with my k03s than risk buying one of them
