Hi.
Im new here so be nice!

I own a 9n2 polo gti (the 1.8T one), had it for just over 3.5 years and have loved it, its only running stage 1 map but is quite nippy and a great car. However im ready for a change to something a bit bigger, more comfortable and faster! Ive looked at golf gti/ed 30s and audi A3s but have always liked the looks of the Leon, especially the K1 with the body kit and central exhaust etc. could you please give me some feed back on what there like to own, any common faults, what mpg you get (im guessing around 40 on a run as my uncle has a golf gti). would anyone advise me to not get one and why?

Im looking at 08/58 regs and have found this on ebay but i can post a link. its ebay item number: 300429841002 .its at a garage not far from me. it seems a decent/competitive price and low milage. Im going to have a look on sat, unless im advised against it!

Thanks in advance.

Brad.

I don't have a Cupra myself but from what I've read on here, 40mpg is optimistic even on a run unless you're hypermiling.
Personally, I'm in the process of chopping my petrol Leon FR for a tree-hugging Ecomotive version, because I have a long commute and the fuel bills are killing me... so I wouldn't buy a Cupra myself. ;)

There are many very happy Cupra owners on here who I'm sure will be along with some more useful replies soon. :)

Mine hasn't see too many problems thus far, touch wood. Had it about 8/9 months.

Had a window seal replaced and it's in at the Stealers at the moment for a problem starting. They think it's a temp sensor.

I love it though. Arranging a GIAC Stage One remap shortly as the warranty is almost done, so should be even more enjoyable then.

Hi, I currently have a 2007 Cupra which is basically the same as a K1 but in a different 'frock'. I have also previously owned a golf GTI mk5 and an Edition 30. Firstly, if you're in Cupra/K1/ ED30 territory forget the standard Gti.

The K04 cars are in a different league, especially with a simple stage 1 map like Bluefin etc.

I'm probably going to get flamed here, but, I can't see that the K1 is worth the premium over the Cupra personally.

I sold my Edition 30 as we decided that the wife would only return to minimal part time work at the end of her materinity leave - leaving a big hole in our combined incomes, so we needed to economise.

The Cupra somehow feels more sporty to drive and to be in than the edition 30, but the Golf is much nicer quality inside. If budget was not an issue for us, I'd have another Edition 30 (being completely honest) rather than a K1. But budget is an issue (for us) and for £12k a Cupra is much better value than a standard golf Gti (non ed30)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Leon, I love it and in Cupra (rather than K1) spec I think it's a bargain compared to the competition. I'd save the premium on the K1, buy a Cupra and spend the difference on a turbo back exhaust, uprated fuel pump and stage2+ remap - for a true giant killing machine ;)

In terms of mpg, it is possible to get 40mpg out of an ED30, but you'd have to limit yourself to around 65/70mph max on the motorway and avoid regular hard acceleration. I used to average around 33mpg in the ed30, which was 'bluefined' - I drove fairly sedately on the motorway (70/80) using 'drive' and used the car properly on the a and b roads with the paddles in manual mode.

Haven't had the Cupra long enough to calculate the Mpg accurately yet, but as it's the same drivetrain as the ED30 I can't see why it would be any different.

Cheers.

ive had my K1 for about 3 weeks and im loving it,

the K1 is expensive but if u want one u have to have one,

im averging around 28 mpg around town, i havent had it on a gd run yet,

the only thing that lets it down is the central dash, but it a flying machine and when the warranty runs out i will get it remapped.

As I have said before (and please remember I am a twice over k1 driver), consider buying a regular leon and fitting the aero kit yourself, you may find it is cheaper.

I have loved both my k1s but the premium you are expected to pay on a second hand one is criminal. I paid less than an extra grand for my k1 from new. As a second hand buyer you may have to pay over 2k premium for some bumpers. Be warned is all I will say.

:)

Having owned my 59 plated k1 for just over a year I've averaged 29 mpg and I think that that is pretty much an honest return of what you'd expect out of it. If you're looking for 40mpg, then look elsewhere, maybe the Fr. But for looks, get the k1 over the standard cupra, otherwise when you pass a k1 on the road, you'll be quietly damming yourself. This was the case when I got the standard mk1 cupra, and not the cupra r. So when I bought this one, I splashed out a little more and got what I really wanted and have enjoyed for the last year or so. Eventhough SEAT have brought out a new R variant, I still think that the k1 is a better looking car than it.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the K1, I have to agree with everything said there, even if you feel you're paying over the odds (2zeroalpha has a good point though). After all, you don't buy a car as an investment!

The K1 looks pretty nice from the front, but the rear is just ugly I'm afraid.

Cheers for the replys.

as for the mpg i was just goin on the golf gti`s and tt`s with the 200bhp variant getting 40 on a run. i know around town and having fun youll get a lot less. Im not that bothered about economy but its nice to know.

Im still goin to check the one out that i posted as im still very interested and it looks very nice, does any one know this car?

thanks again.

Totally agree, love my K1 and I'm glad I spent that bit extra for it, as for mpg my average is about 22mpg but compared to my impreza its great on fuel :D

Had my K1 for about a month now, taking it easy around town i see about 25MPG, did two long runs on the motorway of about 150 miles sitting at a steady70 to 80 and i got 30MPG. I have never seen over 31MPG even when sitting at 70MPH on the motorway. Must say that i was a little dissapointed about the mPG as my Megane 225 used to get about 28MPG around town and 34MPG on a run.

Personaly i like the K1 body shape as it stands out from the croud, dont want to start a love hate K1 thread again as it been done many times before. You eaither love um or hate um.
