Keep it to TDI's please

I'm getting a bit let down by the 'general' posts in this section recently...

moved a few posts now & felt like I should make a comment about it

yes I know that TDI's are the holey grail, but a couple of examples:

1) Ibiza problems don't mean you have to post them in the TDi section - there are other Ibiza mk4 models...
2) perhaps engine tuning discussion is just as relevant in the engine tuning section? I'm not over fussed, but I'm sure you can see my point.

So - I'm asking (not telling) you nicely to PLEASE try & think where you're going to post your next new thread when you go for the New Post link.

Remember the Cupra R section, it's getting a lot like this.....

It could be argued that maybe there shouldn't even be a seperate TDI section...

At the moment, because my car is both a TDI and Ibiza, I have two equally applicable forums in which to post, which I think is where the confusion lies. Both of these forums are in the "Seat Model Specific" area.

Perhaps it would be better to just have the model-specific forums (IE Leon, Ibiza, etc) and then separate TDI-related forums for discussions specific to engine mods/technology which is where the main differences lie between TDIs and fuel guzzlers (sorry, Petrol ). TDI powered cars are now so popular (I think we've over 60 members in the SCNSSC now) it seems odd to still give TDIs a forum of their own - there isn't a separate "Petrol" forum...

Just an idea...what does everyone else think ?

SO much more happens in here that is specifically for TDIs that it really helps me, for example i dont know anything about tuning the petrol burners but know most about the TDI engine so having to go through the general ibiza and engine tuning forums with the many petrol specfic posts would really be a pain in the neck for me and probably paulo as well.

a way that i sometimes work is to do the view new posts button then browse the topics, if i see one i can help with then i look over to see the forum, if its TDIs then im in there. For example it was only today that someone posted Tuning Help i think as the topic in the TDI Section which i then dived in and helped him out as i knew that i could, but if this was just in the general engine section or the ibiza section then i probably wouldnt as i would assume its for the petrol versions as this is the largest userbase on here.

I really hope we can keep the TDI forum, its one of my main stablemates during the day, and us TDI's are a bit of a different breed to the petrol people. I would be very sad to see it go.

That was why I suggested separate forums for the TDI-specific bits such as engine technology, tuning mods, etc.

Then all the stuff that's the same on Petrol & TDI versions of the same models can go in the model-specific forum -eg Ibiza, Leon etc.

I suppose the net effect being the same as moving the TDI forum into the tuning section perhaps - as we should only be posting TDI-specific stuff in the TDI forum anyway, which basically amounts to engine/tuning mods.

Sorry - I think you miss my point...I'm wasn't suggesting separate TDI forums for each model.

Because the TDI engine is essentially the same across the range a single TDI section makes sense.

Exactly my point - one separate TDI forum for all matters related to TDI engines (regardless of model) - say under the "Tuning and Modification" section. After all if a discussion is specific to TDIs it's either going to be engine or fuel related - if not it belongs in the model specific section.

I just thinks it seems illogical to have a "Seat Model Specific" section, where my car can belong to two forums within...this is where the posting confusion starts and gives rise to the problems that m0rk has highlighted.

I like the fact that I can post as a Leon owner in one forum and then get back to my roots and blood-brothers/ true believers by posting in the TDI forum. I make sure that I post general Leon matters in the Leon section and specific TDI/Diesel matters in the TDI section. By searching the 'New Posts' section, I get an overview of what's happening in other forums and can dive in where I want.

What's confused me is the posts in the TDI section that have f-all to do with TDI's i.e. the post about front speakers for Ibiza TDI's. It would seem to me that some peeps get confused and think if they own a TDI then all posts whatever the subject have to be in the TDI forum...

Surely the answer is in educating new 'postees' to be very careful what and where they post, which is what m0rk is saying? The only prob with that is ensuring that peeps read the forum rules...

I feel that sticking the TDI section as a sub-section within another forum is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. The incorrect postings are the fault of a small number of individuals rather than the TDI forum as a whole. Is there some way that regular old-hands in the TDI forum can help by flagging up to postees that they are putting stuff in the wrong forum? i.e. can we solve this in-house?

but I'm begining to dispare at the people who are still managing to totally bypass the 'TDI Tuning' title when they goto hit 'New Thread'

I'm not saying people are stupid........ but please make a concerted effort to at least try & get the right section...

And the model specific bit would be cool as well.. otherwise I can see some hardcore pruning & moving going on.

hi guys,
seems to be getting a bit stressed in here? As a new member myself & reading todays comments i really don't see a problem with the layout of the forum. Irrespective of model surely members know that if they have a diesel then its only really the engine thats different to the petrol so posting general enquiries into a specific forum is just lazy or stupid or both.
Coming into seatcupra is new to me ( i had a Honda S2000 before the bride dropped my beautiful daughter 13 weeks ago ) & i'm not 100% clued up on a lot of the items that i'm curious about especially TDi's but i find the format easy to use.
