Kenwood Keg in Leon (mk1)

Hi, one of my mates is off travelling the world for a year (lucky sod) and so has offered to lend me his kenwood keg + kenwood head unit.

Having absolutely no idea about ICE stuff myself I was wondering if any of you guys knew if I would need any additional bits to install this other than the obvious side blanking plates (ie. any sort of power adapter cable? aerial booster? or anything else I will need - sorry if stoopid questions but like I said have no clue with this stuff)

Cheers

I fitted a Kenwood headunit not that long ago. All i had purchase was the blanking plate. I personally didn't get an aerial booster, i only listen to FM and all the stations were found without the booster.

Hope this helps.

sorry for delay - been away on business

ok - got it fitted ok (kenwood headunit + phatnoise/kenwood music keg)
went with aeria booster just in case, and obviously needed a blanking plate as well.

all works ok but appear to have a problem now - after about 30mins the sounds starts to distort and get quieter (only playing at about volume 20) - the head unit feels warm.

I know the head unit is 40Wx4 so would this would have been plenty to drive the oem leon speakers? (or does the aura headunit output more power than this?) - if so I guess the amps in the kenwood headunit are overheating.
Or is the headunit just physically getting hot and having problems?
or is it something else?

Any help appreciated! :)

I once fitted a Kenwood head unit to a friends Golf and had the exact same problem. In the end I purchased the Autoleads wiring adaptor for the Golf (same for other VAG cars) which cured the problem. Other head units fitted to VAG cars are fine, but for some reason Kenwoods don't seem to fare well.

Might be worth trying for the sake of £15 (usually just under) as your head unit wont take too much before it dies.

hi rob

thanks for the reply - sorry to be a dumbass but exactly what is this lead I need to get and can I just get it from a VAG dealer?

(I guess my other option is to get an VAG multichanger lead and connect phatnoise to aura and ditch the kenwood headunit)

Cheers ;)
