Hi!
I have a 2017 Leon ST with Xcellence trim and has kessy from factory.
Do anyone know of its possible to upgrade the flip key to a newer key like the ones on some skodas and b8 passat with kessy?
On those the keyfob is more thin and has the key blade hidden inside.
Thanks ;)

I don’t know if it’s possible. However, be aware that the key blade on the newer style key fobs isn’t attached to the fob like it is on your existing key fob - it’s a separate part that‘s stored in a slot in the key fob. I’ve read of one or two instances on VW forums where owners have lost the emergency key blade because it’s fallen out of the storage slot - very inconvenient if the battery in the key fob ‘dies’ and you need to use the key blade to manually unlock your car!

Also, the shiny piano black case on the newer style key fobs tends to get scratched very easily, and when they do, they soon look very shabby.

In your position I’d keep your existing key fob - it’s functional without the disadvantages highlighted above.

It worked the other way on mine - I keep my keys on a carabiner hooked on my jeans, and I've nearly lost the entire fob (and kept the blade) due to the button being pressed and it dropping off. Fortunately I was able to find it quickly. It now sits in a 3rd party case that holds the entire key together...

I've also had problem with the key detaching from the fob. It's happened with both keys. On each occasion it has been necessary to open the fob as if to change the battery and manipulate a rather complicated spring/ latch mechanism to get the fob to retain the key. I think this is another example of Seat/BAG preferring style over functionality (like the infotainment software?).
Your third party case looks a good solution. Can you advise the suppiier?

I got it here on Amazon.. If you go with one of these, forget about the screw-in keyring that goes with it, and use a regular metal keyring loop through it all - that way you won't lose the fob if the screw undoes itself.

They also do ones like this that fully envelop the key in a metal casing (which also work well), but you'd need to take it off with a screwdriver if you needed to get the blade out, and they're heavier.

Thanks Alex.Looks just the job to overcome what I consider a design flaw.

Going back to the original question, I'm kinda wondering the same.
Definitely the furthest away from being an expert in car keys but would it be possible to just change the internals between the keys? Or could this bring any issues?😅
(Obviously the physical key would have to be changed as well)
