Key button locking

Hi all,

Sorry to raise this one again as I've read tonnes about it, but I am still none the wiser.

Resetting the key. The car has been played with as someone has fitted a push button for the starter. I think this might have something to do with why I can't get the doors to lock with the button on the key. I've tried the methods posted and got nowhere. The central locking works when I use the key in the lock (although it didn't, until I fixed it!), but it would be nice if it worked on the button.

I read about having a non standard radio has an effect on the key too! Did I misunderstand that? Either way, it doesn't have a standard radio!

Thanks in advance.

ignition button shouldn't cause an issue to the locks as it's independent and the locks will work wether the ignition is on or not, might cause some immodiliser problems but thats a different ball game and stereo shouldnt be an issue on the mk2 either

turn igntion so the lights appear (oil etc ) take key out straight away

press and hold one button on the remote

then methodically press the other one 3 times

then release

should then see the led on the key flashes 5 times and hear the doors locking

either way round, but try both ways if no joy

**edit** just to note for others that have asked and many that will

YES the central locking system will need to be operational in the first place for you to get the remote working so stick a key on the door(s) and try it first.

If you do as fl@pper said and he lights flash 5 times but the doors don't lock, could be the fob you have isn't working. Try changing the batteries otherwise its Easy enough to swap wih one fron the scappies

Thank you for taking the time to write those instructions again Fl@pper.

I have them printed from an earlier post of yours and have tried that. There was another one I tried which was something about turning the key to unlock the door 3 times or something like that. I forget now, and the print outs are in the car. Either way, I've had no luck. I put a new battery in the key because you said before, the light on the key may work but the battery may not have enough power to actuate the locks.

Must be the key then.

Take care.
