My car has done nearly a 1000 miles now but today ive noticed there is a knocking noise coming from my rear drivers wheel somewhere.it happens when i go over a speed bump or a little pot hole in the road.thought it was my exhaust st first but it seems like its coming from the wheel area.thinking of getting it checked over tomoz.the other thing i thought it could be is maybe a brick has shot up and gone somewhere causing the noise as my driveway is pebbled.

From an older thread. Rear seat rattle can be difficult to locate (#3 below)

A few possibles to try:
1. Give the (cold!) exhaust a wiggle, tail pipes first and then centre section. If a mounting rubber has gone missing the exhaust can move, if it contacts an undersealed area you can get a dull knocking.

2. Rear shocks debris shield. Look over the top of the rear wheels, there's a plastic tube which covers the exposed shaft of the shock, it locates into an aluminium fitting at the upper mounting point. The plastic can separate from the ally fitting and again gives a dull rattle/knock.

3. Rear seat catches. There needs to be a reasonable amount of "pre-load" on the seat retaining latch, if not you can get movement and... knocking. Try driving with the rear seats folded flat to diagnose. As a temporary measure wrap some insulating tape around the metal loop of the latch, this should increase the pre-load whilst stopping direct contact of the 2 parts responsible for any noise.

4. Still no joy? Rear hatch rattle similar to the seat issue above, try the same "tape fix" as above to aid diagnosis.

This is a well timed thread mines developed a mettalic rattling noise over the weekend and it sounded as if the brake dust guard was loose on rear left but after checking and seeing everything was solid i gave up. The noise is very notticeable on low speed but high speed running must drown it out and then we i reversed on Saturday morning it made a very loud high pitched squeel but that did not repeat this morning so i will have to check harder for stones.

At the bottom of the suspension theres like a bowl shaped metal thing that the suspension sits in or its probably all linked together.the brick was sitting in there and it was quite tricky to get your fingers in.i couldnt see anything untill the bloke from the garage got it on the ramps then it was obvious.he didnt charge me anything so its probably worth having it checked.mine sounded like yours.like a metal plate rattling.

Just got the wheel off and no stone! Where else shall i look
