Took the car for a spin this afternoon and noticed a knocking / vibration through the steering wheel at high speed and at lower speeds i noticed it was like the brakes were almost like pinching and easing and then pinching and easing.........

stopped at my local wheel guy and tyres are admittedly getting to the end of their life's and having new continentals put on the front, but he said my brake pads and disc all looked fine with loads of usage left.

any advice ???

Possible warped disc? My nearside front is slightly warped, I know it's not top mount as I had new springs fitted about 6 weeks back and was told the mounts are good, symptoms were there before the springs too. It's so annoying though as braking from anything above say 45-50mph u really hear it and can feel the juddering. Can also feel it through the peddle slightly but like I say that's from above 45-50mph. Below that I don't notice it. Brakes still work fine just annoying judder/noise

The vibration and brakes "pinching" on and off under braking defiantly sound like warped discs to me. The knocking could possibly be lower ball joint.
