Is there are any techie types in here that can help it would be much appriciated.

I noticed a few weeks ago that the LCR didn't feel quite right, spool up seems to take longer and the boost doesn't seem to peak as it used to. My trip computer and average MPG all re-set themselves every time the key is removed from the ignition? MrDave got Vag-Com on it for me and it threw this up

Yeah. It turned out to be the cambelt. It was about due, but when we took the old one off I was amaized how slack the old worn one was after only 35k. If your cambelt is anywhere near due mate it'll be that! Make sure you do the tensioner and water pump at the same time! Never had this again once I'd changes the cambelt and tensioner, It was noticable how much tighter the new belt made the engine feel too.

Cheers for the reply! Unlikely to be the cambelt in my case, I had it done just after getting the car so it's only done about 9000 miles so far. I had the rocker cover gasket replaced recently and reckon the garage would have said if the cambelt looked in a bad way, although I guess it could be something to do with the cold affecting the belt.

Thanks again for the response, think I'm going to take the car to the stealer for some proper diagnostics.

Cheers, there's a strange boost issue (sometimes "forgets" to spin the turbo up when flooring it, if I lift right off and back on again it usually wakes up) and a strange whining sound that seems to be linked with the throttle pedal position too so going to hand it over, tell them to work out what's all wrong with it and fix what can be fixed when I can afford to. Fingers crossed...
