I've noticed there is a large void behind the inside of rear bumper. Ot looks odd and I'd expect it to be covered by a tray or something similar. Is this normal? Can others please check their cars to see it they are others like it.

Pretty certain it’s to accommodate a tow bar. VW’s Golf (certainly the mk7.5 Golf) has a similar recess and it doesn’t have a cover.

So I suspect it’s how it’s meant to be on the Formentor too, and cars probably leave the factory with that open recess.

Perfectly normal it's for the towbar assembly
I hated it so I got a maxton splitter to fill the gap

Still think it should have had a removable panel fitted as standard, as most users don't tow nowadays.
Agreed. Not only does it look naff and wrong, it will allow **** to spray up into it and look messy and promote corrosion. Very difficult to clean out too. I will look to find an aftermarket cover for it. If I knew what to search for.
