LCR Coolant Leak

Hi All,

Every 500-1000 miles or so the coolant light comes on requesting a top up of coolant, usually around 500ml.

Obviously I have a small leak somewhere - usual suspects would be radiator, thermostat housing or aux water pump but is there anywhere else to check?

Alternatively do I just bung some K-Seal in and forget about it (this would be a last resort)

P

Dont use any kind of chemicals to stop the leak as it never works, is the car overheating?

I wouldn't just go chucking K seal in, it should be a fairly easy find.

Check all hoses going into the rad, water pump.

Has it been serviced or anything recently?

I had a small leak which turned out to be the heater matrix but if your losing that much you would have wet carpets or like me have steam coming out your vents when you first turn the heater on.
Its a 7 hour job so I hope it's not that.

I had the same problem last year with my 2003 LCR (180k km at the time). It was due to a small Y-shaped plastic part joining 1 hose to 2 hoses somewhere in the circuit. Nothing major, cheap and easy fix if your local garage is honest and trust worthy. I know, hard to come by these days.

Bingo - it's coming from the temp sensor housing leaving a nice little puddle on top of the gearbox. Does anyone know the part number for this?

The coolent sensor mate euro car parts, it will be the rubber O ring that's prob knackered, wait till engine is cool and pop it out and see if the O ring is busted

Looks like GSF stock the flange - but if anyone does know the part number it would still be appreciated

Phone TPS and tell them what you need, I can't find the part number mate, take the part off and it will be stamped on that

Just to close this out if anyone searches in future. Got the part from GSF (listed as correct) and fitted it at the weekend. Small issue is one of the outlets on the new flange points in a different direction to the old part. Fortunately the hose connected to this port can be trimmed to ensure it still fits, slightly fiddly and now has a very small kink (not pinched), but works perfectly.

Easy job, took about an hour, best to remove your airbox to provide easier access. The flange which came off was in a very sorry state, probably due an old oil leak from the rocker cover.

No more leaks (for the time being)
