Hi All,

During a spirited drive home on Monday, i experienced something rather off putting...

Upon cornering hard at approx 75mph the traction control suddenly kicked in, I had a rubbing noise as it obviously tried to break in short spurts.

This felt incredibly off putting and left me a little worried!

Why would this happen? Is it due to the the corner I was going round, the wheel not under load was lifting off the ground at the front causing traction control to kick in?

It happened a second time and really freaked me out, after that I turned off TC and I didn't have the problem but wandered if then I was exposing myself to other dangerous things whilst driving at speed.

Any help appreciated...car is mapped to about 280bhp, front and rear Neuspeed ARBS.

Sounds exactly like you say really dude, TCS kicking in as traction is diminished through the hard cornering.

Maybe you need to slow down on the corners :p, that may stop the brown trouser moments!!

leave the tc off mate, its pants and for sprited driving isnt ideal.

most on here have it off all the time, i do but leave mine on in the wet.

a few other choice handling mods ontop of your arbs will sort the handling for spirited driving for you aswell.

sounds like ESP to me, NOT traction control.

ESP is, (if you didnt know) electronic stabilty program which means it can brake individual wheels, which i think is what you experienced.

so if you were going into a 75 mph corner 'hard' im not surprised it stepped in a bit. Its there is you do something silly or need help in an emergency... ok so it wasnt an emergency... ;)

oh and in my opinion, there are times people may want to turnESP off.. but to do this every time you getin the car as routine is simply, IMO, stupid.

I'd agree that turning the TCS off is the best option (mine is off 90% of the time). Just because one wheel is losing a small amount of traction on a corner doesn't mean that you want the power sapped away.

Other option is to get a Wavetrac LSD though! :D

ESP should only cut in if the car is travelling in a different direction to where the front wheels are pointing as far as I know...

Edited to add that ESP can't actually be turned off, whatever the button in the car says :)

blah blah blah...

the car does not have to be spinning for ESP to operate, its more sophisticated than that, and not much use if it only works once a spin has started.

If a driver cant feel ESP working or tell the difference, id suggest not cornering hard at 75 mph.

I have this too.
As above just switch it off for spirited driving and on for the rest of the time.

I worry that there is an issue too with my car but as my cars life is more track orientated it's not bothering me enough to look into it any further.
I know there are accelerometers in the cars ESP system, perhaps it's something to do with these??

Well, I'd suggest the OP can inform us by driving with the TCS off on the same road?

Upper strut brace really helps tighten up the front if you're finding that a bit woolly btw, Funky.

Not too sure bud.
I will be looking into this and looking into disabling the ABS to allow me to trail brake into corners.
Suppose Bill would know about this but he won't have ESP, its TCS his model has

It's more fun when the ESP kicks in with TCS already off. That is cornering hard :D

Yep that's the TCS button. I always turn it off, except in the rain/snow I tend to leave it on.

Willie; unplug one of the ABS sensors on the hub assembly - this will disable tcs, esp and abs...
ESP is a PITA on the LCR - especially with coilies fitted; it comes in far too early I find. Even when turned "off", it is still on in a reduced mode - this is harder to trigger tho!!
