LCR Fuel

Hi,

I know this has probably been discussed on many occasions but I was hoping that you lovely people could confirm something for me. I did try searching for an answer but unfortunately I couldn't find one...

When I bought my car two days ago I was told that an LCR can run on both 95ron and 97ron fuel (super unleaded).

Can you confirm whether running it on 95ron will do any damage? I know 97 ron will provide better fuel economy and performance but I just wanted to confirm whether what the garage told me was true...

in my fuel cap it only says use 98RON only dont think it wud help the old girl on 95RON

Running it ov cr*ppy 95 Octane supermarket fuel isn't the kindest thing to do to your car.

Many people on here (including me) wouldn't run their cars on anything but Shell V-Power.

See chapter 3.4 in your handbook:

"If, in an emergency, the octane rating of the available petrol is lower than required by the engine, only drive with medium engine speeds and low engine loading. High engine loading with full throttle or high revs can cause engine damage. Fill tank with petrol of the correct octane rating as soon as possible.

Fuel with a higher octane rating than that required by the engine can be used without limitation. There are, however, no advantages regarding output and consumption."

oh and if you still doubt me its exactly the same on a LC as the LCR.

never any arguments if you can run a LC on 95 ron...

make your own minds up, i get flamed evertime i say you can run a LCR on 95 ron...

however, i will say that the engine does respond well to higher octane fuel...

not a BIG no no if you do it infrequently
but its not doing the car any favours

as said my LC says same 98RON in bold and 95RON in lower case underneath
i run 99 V-Power all the time
if i cant get to shell, never lower than 97

IMO a performance car such as an LCR should be run on 98+...

However, I'm sure your car would run fine on normal 95 RON - as long as it's totally standard.

it wont do any harm running it on 95 RON in my opinion.
however, i do think the LC and LCR respond well to super.

In an ideal world, V-power, but its not an ideal world. I run my LCR (totally standard) on 95, and its fine. If I was doing a track day or something, I would run it on 98 for a couple of tanks before the event, and during, otherwise the hype of the world ending on 95 is utter crap. These engines are very sophisticated and perfectly capable of running on regular without issue.

by law done all cars sold new in the UK have to run on 95 regardless of performance issues

Look at the **** fuel in America - premium gas is only 92-95, most of their stuff is around 85-87 RON. VAG cars run fine over there (I appreciate the map is adjusted to suit). My cousin's new Mk5 Golf GTI was running just fine was I visited him in Baltimore in September.
