hey folks,
due to a certain 'friend' of mine ruining both the front nearside and rear nearside windows on my LCR (see progress thread),by putting sticky labels on which bonded ...i am in the fortunate situation of getting them fully replaced. I have been quoted £280 all in for the 2 windows.
But i have seen alot of cars lately especially hot hatch cars with the rear windows and rear screen with privacy glass which i think looks awesome. I have never been a fan of tinted windows in the past, but if i can get hold of proper tinted glass which i think is more classy, then i will be stoked.
Unfortunately Autoglass do not/cant supply privacy glass for this vehicle, but there must be a glass company in england that can custom do 5 windows surely?....having window tints is simply not an option for me....

any help appreciated...

i have black tints on my rear and sides (apart from fronts) one got ruined n i thought they we're actual privacy glass and seat said they didnt do it.
so had to get it stuck on again.
theres some very good people out there that do an awesome job and you can only tell sometimes from the inside or up close. not sure if an aftermarket company do they privacy glass but i can seeing being cheap.

cheers bud,
i realize we are not in the 80s anymore but i still have visions of the film peeling and flaking etc....privacy glass normally has the pleasant side effect of adding value to a car. Especially if it is actually privacy glass.

the back ones are fully black you can only just see thru if you get right up close then cover the light out with your hands the fronts have a slight tint but it looks darker as theres hardly any light going thru.

touch wood ive never been pulled about the windows.
mine passed the mot with the tints on.
if you look at most cars now days they come with options of privacy glass so i think its hard for the coppers to tell unless its a proper chavved up motor.
if you go too dark on the front then ur asking for trouble. mine were done before i had the car and i thought it was standard but later found out it wasnt.

How do insurance company's react to the front windows being done? say you pull out of a T-junction and a car hits you would the insurers insist your vision was impaired by the extra tint and not pay out?

It's not a leading question........but I suspect insurers wouldn't be happy with the illegal extra tint

well if there were illegal then i suppose that it would be a good case. but if its not illegal then who's to say your not fine. it wasnt illegal to tint your windows as long as the right amount of light passes through. think the legal amount was 15% or 25% not 100% sure on them figures tho. the back ones are fine.

The factory tint on the windows is all ready down the the legal max IIRC. Any additional tint will make them illegal.

Most companies nowadays will not even entertain the idea of tintng the fronts aswell, only the back and rear screen, because of the legal requirements.
Although i have a friend with a black Astra with tints all round, and she carries around a certifivate in her glove box from the company that fitted then proved what degree of tint they are and how much light they let through incase she is pulled over, and she has never had a problem. If you do it sensibly then i don't think many copper have a problem, its when its done to such a degree when you can't see out of them it become an issue.

Bret, have a word with nev_lcr in Ipswich, he is a commercial tinter by trade iirc and may be able to sort you out? :)

cheers danny, i may PM him....

i was just wondering if there was a company that actually manufactured tinted glass for our cars as opposed to tinting film?

to the other comments, im not interested in tinting the fronts, just the rears....dont want them too dark though...
