LCR trackrod ends/balljoints?

Hi all,

This is a total noob question but I just wanted to make sure...

When I last had new tyres fitted the garage said that my tracking couldn't be adjusted as it has siezed.

So, what parts do I need to replace? I'm assuming it's the ball joints? Any one know the part number?

Car's almost at 100K miles - any other tracking/steering bits worth replacing while I'm at it?

I did this recently, i replaced, Top mounts, Droplinks and ball joints, all not to expensive and relitly easy to do. You will need tracking done after tho.

you could replace all the bushes to whilst your doing it.

I've had the top mounts, droplinks and ARB replaced recently and already have Powerflex bushes all round

Looks like just the ball joints then

Looks like you way ahead already then. Altho the garage saying the ball joints a seized, i just think they havnt used a big enough hammer!!! but id change them just to be sure as 100k is prob time to change, and they are easy to do, i did mine and im no mechanic!!

Haha - actually the time before this they had the blow torch on them for ages until they loosened up. This time they gave up! Luckily my tracking is only out by a tiny amount.

Seem cheap to replace so will defo get it done.

The garage is saying your trackrod ends have seized onto the trackrods, this is where they usually breakout the blowtorch to heat the joint, then swing on it with a big spanner/wrench.

If they've done that without any luck, looks like new trackrods and ends for you, NOT balljoints.

Although doing the balljoints is a good answer to your question regarding what other bits to change out

Thanks for the info CSD, I did suspect that there was more to it!

Will get trackrods/ends/ball joints done then. I'm thinking that's not going to be cheap...

Shouldnt be to much, have a look on vwspares on the old tinternet, good prices on there mate

As said, have a browse on t'internet, can get the parts needed for peanuts. Or send david@seremotors a PM for some OEM parts with a decent discount
