hi guys,

I just got back from a garage and had some boost tests done. the mechanic noticed the intercooler was leaking oil (not majorly).

my question is, would this cause an overall lack of power? and lack of maintaining boost?
also would this cause my MPG to be low?

Im curious because I need to have the VNT cleaned out before I get a new intercooler (apparently its leaking because overboosting broke it) and want to confirm it will benefit me before i spend £

cheers.

I'm not like you guys...
Just incase anyone knows, whats normal boost psi in the intercooler pipe on a 110? Ive got a remapped one myself, and if i put my foot down, boost guage reads around 22psi, then drops back down to around 15psi.

Is this normal, or do I have a boost leak?? Always wondered...

I get 22psi and the drop to 15psi as well. I was told it is supposed to peak at 16? or 19? (forget which) and hold boost instead of dropping off.

the mechanic says its drops off because of the leaking intercooler. and it spikes so high because the variable vanes (he referred to them as VNT) are getting stuck.

i was advised to get a new/uprated intercooler AFTER I get the variable vane issue sorted because he says the overboost caused the intercooler to split/break/whatever and leak pressure into atmosphere.

brightside, does your car feel like it lacks power overall? but when turbo kicks in its got some power for a second or so? and is your MPG really low? 30 like me.

No my mpg is usually like high 40's, if im driving like a granny 55+mpg easy.
Sometimes i do think my car isnt as quick as I'd like, but its possibley because Ive got used to it.. I do get a good surge when the turbo is in full swing though, then it does kinda die down, but It has always done this since Ive owned it, since last November, before and after remap.

Best way to check for intercooler leakage? Ive replaced my top intercooler pipe, (as had an accident with old one lol), and checked for leaks around the boost guage and pipework, all seems fine.

What is the problem with the sticking vanes? Are they in the actual turbo? Also keep hearing VNT what is this, I think I got told once, or found out somewhere, but I've forgot lol

was checking my brakes out yeserday, and managed to have a quick look at the bottom pipe, looks like I may have a small leak:blink:

Where the bottom pipe connects to one going back up, there was alot of oil. Also, the little bracket, (the hole and the notch on the bodywork) a come off, so the pipe was staying there of its own accord:shrug: i pushed it back onto its holder, tried to squeeze the pipes together more, as best as I could, and began to worry a little bit....

Should I be?:help:
