Hi I've had a look in Screwfix for the butyl tape but they've not got any in stock so I've went for a wander to Travis Perkins which were also closed so I'll have a look on eBay and have found this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOLT-ON-P..._Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item4d1604bced

It states it's commonly used for a Leon which I think would imply it's the right stuff lol

Just gotta wait for it to arrive as my friend has told me he'll give me a hand in the week if I can't get to Wiltshire :)

Cheers
Ryan

Thanks so much for your offer though it's appreciated buddy :D

Bungs under the footwells? That's interesting. My rear o/s mat is drying out as we speak owing to an ingress of water in that footwell. There's no dampness around the carpet beneath he doors, only in the footwell itself. I wonder if the bung has sprung a leak and spray is working its way in?

Although my doors do need doing as my driver door kick plate is always wet after rain/carwash

The bungs are plastic and about the size of a milk bottle top. The holes they fill are there to allow drainage in the body shell factory when the car body shell is submerged in a phosphate bath . It allows the chemical to drain out quickly .
Your problem wont be the bungs as they are sealed in by the underseal coat which is comprehensive and very well applied on the cupra shells that are spanish built.

Yours problem will be the drivers door card seal I suspect . The water finds its way back especially if you park on a slope.

You would think it's the door card seals, especially given the water that sits around there. However, there is zero dampness forward of the wet patch, to the sides or anywhere else! For the water to make its way from the front door to the rear footwell (I'm talking proper rear, as in where the rear bench base raises up from the floor pan) without any dampness elsewhere? Clearly the water is pooling where it has nowhere else to run, but I'd expect it to be damp from the front door back.

I'll be honest, I am trying to convince myself that it's not the door just do I don't have to take the door card off. Working with cars on a daily basis has taught me two things:

1. Trim clips break real easy

2. Trim never goes back on exactly as it came off. Squeaks and rattles abound.

I'll have to dry it out and think about resealing the door :(

I'll inspect the bung just to rule it out, if nothing else.

status subject to change
or:
1 you park on a slope
2 its the rear door leaking
3 the front door leaks at the rear end which would then flood into the rear compartment.

try to pull of the door trim squarly rather than at an angle to try to reduce chance of clips breaking. mind you they are cheap enough.

+ there isnt really anuthing you should be playing around with that can squeak or rattle afterwards, - dont remove the carrier panel just undo lower bolts and fix insitu.

I park on a level plane. It just seems odd that its dry everywhere else is all! It's likely the front door.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a poke around once I get hold if that butyl tape and the bloody floor dries out.

Dont forget that under the actual black carpet is a thick layer of sound insulation . It is possible for water to move about in this under layer to the back of the car without the carpet above feeling wet ( Think of a water table analogy where by water only shows its self in dips in contours ) You can actually press the carpet in a cupra and hear the water squelshing about underneath when the thin layer of black carpet you press on feels quite dry. I am not kidding ........been there and worn the tea shirt . Cupra cars should be called into national service in times of drought when we have a hose pipe ban . Ive never known a car quite like it in this particular respect.

Haha yeah these cars do seem to have a very well deserved reputation for being moist (easy now).

That water table analogy does make sense, I completely disregarded the sound deadening. Just saw DubSteve's guide and it looks a doddle. I may still order some clips though as they're finicky little buggers at the best of times.

Thanks for your help everyone

My car's almost dry now but it's due to rain again tonight / tomorrow so I'll be starting again trying to dry it out I expect :(

Hopefully the tape turns up soon and I can get it done sharpish then I'll whip the carpets up to dry it all when we go to sort the seals out

Wish me luck lol
