Evening,

Just putting this one out there to see if there are any suggestions as to what happening to my 2002 leon.

Over the past few years the car's electrics have gradually started to fail:

1. Fuel door release button doesnt work and release mechanism doesnt respond.
2. Remote Central locking hasnt work in years.
3. internal lights dont come on when i open the door.
4. brake sensor alarm beeps every time i start the car, even though the brakes are fine.

I've checked the fuses and they all seem fine.

Would anyone know if there is another place to check for failures? I'm thinking broken wires? faulty components?

Is this a common fault on older Mk1 Leons?

thanks in advance.

Hi, they are pretty easy fixes.

1. Had the same problem, fuse under dash was fine, turned out to be a break in the wire before the switch in the centre console, so rather than ripping wiring loom apart, i ran a new live from the radio circuit and now it works fine.

2&3 are probably the drivers door, lock module, £20 off ebay and easy enough to fit in 45mins or so. Guide here, golf is pretty much identical. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...indow-regulator-clips-and-or-door-lock-module

4. the wire is either broken or not plugged in to the sensor on the pad, maybe they dont have the plug on them.

Hi mty12345

Many thanks for that.

I've changed the door lock mechanism but still have internal light problems.

As for the brake sensor light. Do you know where I should look for the broken wire?
The sensor end seems fine but I'm assuming that the wire goes inside the car and connects to somewhere under the dash??

Should I, therefore, remove the dashboard panels looking for broken wires?

cheers

Do any of the other doors activate the internal lights when you open them? Does central locking work at all, does it open or unlock any of the doors?

Hi,

Non of the other doors activate the internal lights when opened.

But the central locking does open all doors when I use the key in the drivers door, but not with the wireless fob.

thanks

Regarding the key fob, have you changed the battery? Is the keyfob the same one that came with the car? And has the keyfob worked for you before?

I changed the key fob battery a few times, but it's not worked in years.
Not sure if the problem is the fob or the car?

I'm not too bothered about the key fob really, the other things would be nice to fix though.

No worries. I had a thought that the keyfob might be a replacement one (that you might not have known about) from before you had the car and that it wasn't even programmed to it.
