I've recently bought a cupra and was wondering what the best Turbo would be to upgrade to and what I would have to do to the engine if I upgraded. Any help would be great :)

The best all depends on what you want and how much dough you have. My personal favourite would be a hybrid ko3s and a well tuned induction, FMIC and exhaust system. That's because I like a nice wide powerband that comes in early and I don't track day or get to give it a real good blasting so don't need 300 bhp and over.

Don't want to spend silly amounts on it tbh have a decat exhaust and been looking to get a stage 2 map soon with the upgaded induction and thought I could upgrade the Turbo while I was at it to squeeze that little bit extra out of her :)

You'll usually find that no matter what road you want to go that you will have to upgrade intercoolers and induction pipes. These will enable you to max your own standard turbo out a bit more. Then when you do get that turbo upgrade the set up will be there to facilitate the turbo straight away. A K03s hybrid would probably be the best way to go. You would need to get the right spec of hybrid though as some of the turbos may only have upgraded thrust bearings and are listed as hybrids but won't offer any more airflow or power. Well that's my suggestion. Get her lit.

Yer a few people have said about the front mount intercooler but I really don't want to chop the front bumper tbh. Is there away to get it to fit behind the standard mk1 bumper.

Probably not without cutting. I'm sure if it was done with thought that you could get it fitted very discreetly. If you didn't want the FMIC there may be an upgrade for the SMIC which will maybe let you hit about 240/250bhp with an uprated turbo.

I have 2 standard intercoolers is there any way I could use both of these insted of 1 front mount.

You mean the one on the car and a spare one in the garage? I would say it'd make more of a mess than a FMIC to be fitted and would offer less cooling advantages when weighed against the pressure drop across two intercoolers.

I don't have a leon cupra R so can't remember if they have a FMIC as standard but I believe there may be another VAG car with the mk4 golf chassis, mk4 golf or audi a3/s3 or leon cupra R, that has a standard FMIC. It'll have a k04 turbo and require ducting to be made up or adapted but would be a more discreet/oem approach. It may still need a different front bumper or fettling of your own to facilitate fitting but perhaps less than a forge or similar. Try turbo dynamics for hybrids as they give good descriptions on what mods and powers they can touch.

Thanks for your help on this mate, I have got a spare intercooler and I thought the cupra r had two 1 either side. I've been busy trying to get rid of this stutter on my cupra apparently I've got a pressure drop between Turbo and throttle, but I can't find it and had a good look I'm starting to think it could be a bad map or blown Turbo as every thing else seems ok.

Yer think that's the code that keeps popping, and it stutters no matter what I do unless I disconnect the n75 valve. How do I find out if its mapped.

I'll have to check for that code on my 1.8t audi a6 when I get the cam chain tensioner changed. Mine is saying that it was the same, pressure drop between the turbo and the throttle body. The guy who mapped it said it was the dv which was shot and I replaced it with the uprated one but the pressure drop is still there. I haven't checked the intercooler side pipes but the TIP was replaced about a month before mapping with an original new one so it's not that. I wish I lived a bit closer to you Bill to get my map done. The guy that done mine said it was a custom map but I don't understand how it could be custom as the dv was affecting the actual boost pressure versus the requested boost pressure. But there you go.

I have found another cupra in the scrapers by me, what else would I need to take off it if I had the ecu and put that on my motor.
