Great guide, used it to swap my battered case with a nice new one off ebay - total cost £10, £4 for the blank key, £6 for cutting. Had to convince the key cutter that I wasn't going to sue him if it didn't work though!

Right. Everything is in place, transponder comes out of the old key no hassle, got a new blade cut, and I'm pretty confident I can muddle my way thru reprogramming my remote. The only problem I'm having is getting the sodding pin out so I can replace the blades. Nothing I try is budging the bugger, even a drawing pin (as suggested) has done nothing except push the pin outwards and make it even more tightly stuck in...... Help!!!!

before i bought a nifty little device called a "blade mate" i just used a small allen key & a pin hammer to tap out the pin

Would be great if I had allen keys to hand.... took a thin nail to it and got it out a few mms, so I can *almost* get at it with pliers. Now if only I had a pair of pliers to hand.... Tried every place I can think of in Bangor and nothing anyone can do with it. Why does it have to be this one thing?

can't believe there's nowhere in Bangor that can do it. Just buy a set of small allen keys & pliers & do it yourself.

I also use pliers to squeeze the pin back in the blade holder. If I was nearby i'd do it for you! lol

Timpsons didn't have a punch big enough (went down the middle of the pin), the jewellers spent 5 minutes pounding the crap out of it and got nowhere, and nowhere else had the tools....

I've found a small allen key from my bike multitool that fits, spent about half an hour hammering the hell out of the pin to no avail. Pliers can just about grip the protruding end but get no movement. I've soaked it in WD40 for half an hour to try and loosen it (only lubricant I had to hand) and no luck. I think it needs a vice and some brute force/ignorance! Hopefully get it sorted this weekend, off to the mrs' parents, her dad has a garage full of tools which should provide some progress...

What steps do i go down to get a remote key etc, as the car has central locking but the last owner lost the bloody keys.

well you need to either buy yourself a remote & the software/equipment to program it in, or you need to find somebody that can do it all for you. That's if you're wanting 2 keys that will start the car

If you're not bothered about having 2 working keys then you can remove the transponder from your basic key, put it in the new remote key, get the remote blade cut then program the remote function yourself

You can buy a new flip key on ebay for £40,get the blade cut this will enable you to sync the remote fob then either find someone with vcds or i think a dealer will program the transponder for £25

just having vcds is no good because vcds doesn't read the pin code(SKC) that's needed to program the new transponder & as for the dealers charging £25, add another £50 on top of that & you may be closer.

I supply, cut & program car keys for a living & I know dealers charge at least £160 to supply & program a new key

I charge £90 to do a new flip key within a 10 mile radius of my home. I don't use chinese copy equipment neither, I have genuine vcds as well as a few other bits of kit for key programming

i'd be very surprised if dealership only charged £25 knowing how awkward & funny they can be. Unless the person that got it done knows somebody in a dealership
